Duana Names: Texas Names

Duana, We are in the process of naming our fist child, a boy. We are from Texas and like Southern names, but do not want him to sound like he grew up in a trailer park (no offense to anyone out there) We aren't fans of the name Webster, but like the name Webb.  Would it be okay to name our baby Webb even though 1) it is not short for anything 2) It is not a family name?  Also, what sort of middle name would go with Webb? Our last name starts with a B and is two syllables. Full Article

Name question for Duana: I have always loved the name Zoe and would love to use it if this baby is a girl. However, I loathe popular/trendy names and I fear that Zoe is going to be the next Ava/Sophia/Isabella. Your thoughts/suggestions? ___ Well, there are two things at play here. Full Article

My husband and I are expecting our first kiddo in December. We don't know what we are having and are keeping it a grand surprise. We are planning on going in with 3 boy and 3 girl names and meeting the little one before finalizing. My question is for boy names, George is on our long list and a strong contender for the final 3. Full Article

Duana Names: Perfect Name or Bust

Hi Duana - this is actually a name nerd question - much like all the other questions you've received in this vein... having a terribly hard time finding a suitable name for a girl.  I'm French Canadian, my husband is American (with Scandinavian roots) and we are trying to find a name that will be suitably bilingual (that is both sets of parents and families will be able to pronounce the name) without it sounding overly French - my husband is not very adventurous name wise, so despite my desire for certain names (Mattea, Delphine) we have come down to three that might suit the bill. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due in a few months. I recently started watching Games of Thrones and love the character Aria. Her name is gorgeous, reminds me of the beautiful Las Vegas casino Aria: both lovely, strong, and memorable. Yesterday, I started watching Pretty Little Liars and one of the main girls is Aria. Full Article

Duana Names: Nothing fits – or does it?

Duana Posted by Duana at October 22, 2013 15:01:36 October 22, 2013 15:01:36

Hi Duana, We are hoping you can help us. We are expecting our second child and will not be finding out the gender. Boy's name is set. For girls, we are struggling between two right now. We both love Louisa. It sounds classic but fresh at the same time and is underused. I also think it lends itself to cute nicknames for a child but is a lovely adult name as well. Full Article

Hi Duana, I love your baby name posts - but just haven't seen one that's going to help our clan name our third baby girl! Our eldest is Haven (and she was born long before the Alba baby - so don't even ask how I feel about that!) and our middle girl is Mairin (pronounce Mah-rin). Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm in the early stages of pregnancy and am still unsure if I am having a boy or a girl.  My child will have two last names - one starting with a C, two-syllable, and Anglo, the other starting with an L, four-syllable and Southeast Asian.  My husband and I both have three syllable first names and two syllable middle names. Full Article

Duana Names: Jet(t) Set

Duana Posted by Duana at October 10, 2013 15:47:55 October 10, 2013 15:47:55

Hi Duana, I have often seen the name Jet for a boys name. What do you think of Jett for a girl? ___ Well, I think the extra “t” certainly doesn’t make it feminine. Not that I think it’s an unfeminine name. Unusual, yes, and for some people, trendy to the point of exhaustion. Full Article

Dear Duana, My husband and I are expecting our third daughter. She will technically be my first and his third. Our first two are Ramona (14, goes by Ray) and Olivia (10, goes by Olive). I took some notes from one of your posts about merging families. Loved the idea, so I asked my bonus daughters what they’d like they baby sis to be named. Full Article

Duana Names: Borrowing from the Elders

Hi Duana, My husband and I would like to consider incorporating some family names for our future children ... but we're stuck. My grandparents names are Erna and Wilfred, Geneva and Gordon but we were hoping you may be able to give us a modern spin on the names that we could consider? We like modern and trendy, but not crazy popular, we would like to avoid having to spell out the names (as my husband's 4-syllable last name usually requires spelling). Full Article
