Duana Names: Foxy.

Hi Duana, I recently found out I am pregnant and my husband and I are throwing names back and forth. Last night he threw out Fox as a boy option. Fox is a family last name that has ended - there are no more. It's in many of my family members' middle names, but none in the current generation - it truly is dying out! I think Fox could be a great middle name, but does it have any business being a little boy's first name? We both kind of love it, but at the same time are wondering can we really do that? Name a child Fox?? Any insight would be awesome! Jana --- As I write this, I’m watching the end of School Ties – the part where they all sign their names on the honor code on the exam (is this a spoiler?). Full Article

Hi Duana. I have two daughters. My eldest is Piper - I love the name as soon as I heard it on Charmed back in the day. Thankfully, my husband liked it as well. My second daughter was supposed to be named Ivy but someone stole the name 3 weeks before I had her, we're from a small town so I didn't want two 2 Ivy's in school together. Full Article

Hi Duana, A friend of mine suggested I get your opinion on the name we picked for our daughter because now that it's becoming a reality, I am starting to feel uncertain. I'm not uncertain because I don't like the name, but rather because there are so many beautiful names out there and it is hard to commit to one (this is likely our only child due to infertility issues). Full Article

Hi Duana My husband and I have come to a stalemate in choosing a name for our future little man and could use a neutral 3rd party to weigh in (i.e. not family or friends). We have short listed to 4 names over the past few months (I'm 32 weeks along) but haven't been able to come to much of a consensus since then. Full Article

Hi Duana, I wondered your thoughts on the boy name Crosby? The other top contenders are Bennett or Cooper. There is a whole bunch of criteria and other factors going into our decision, but I don't want to bore you with those so will just ask the basic question! One detail is that our daughter is named Amelia. Full Article

Duana, I am in dire need of your advice.  I am due at the end of November and my husband and I have chosen to be surprised with the sex. We fairly easily came to a conclusion on a boy's name - Declan, with Dex as a nickname.  My husband's heritage is Irish, and he's very attracted to Irish names, so this fit the bill. Full Article

Hi Duana, Question for you about baby names that I haven't spotted before. Am having a girl in the fall. My husband is desperately in love with the name Sarah (hi Sarah!), but wants to add a second name to it, much like Sarah Jessica Parker or Sarah Michelle Gellar. He is throwing out Sarah Marie, and figures when she gets older she can choose to go by both or just one (my middle name is Marie). Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due in two weeks with a girl and we are struggling with names. I think you will be up for the challenge. My husband is British and has a very posh last name which got him beat up quite a bit as a kid (he wasn't sent off to boarding school). So we are trying to avoid pretentious society names like Persephone, Cressida, Arabella, etc. Full Article

Hi Duana, My mother's father's name was Johnnie (not a nickname, and spelled just like that). He died a long time ago and my mother always wanted to name a son after him but she ended up having all girls. I'm expecting a girl soon and I was wondering what you thought of this name for her. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm a HUGE name nerd and am so happy to be newly pregnant. I have a question about naming strategies and obligations. Here's the deal: Jewish people tend to name children after deceased relatives, to honour them. For example, if it's a girl she will be Paulina, after my grandmother Pauline. Full Article

Dear Duana, I'm having a hard time with my family and the name that my husband and I picked out. I have always thought my Mom’s taste to be superior to mine so it can F#$% with my thinking because she hates it. My husband and I are having our first child which was a feat in and of itself, its a BOY and we have to pair it with our last name which ends with O. Full Article
