Hi Duana, Hoping you can point me in the right direction regarding this baby naming process. I'm recently preggers with baby #1 (eee!), and am just starting to seriously look at names.  At this point my husband is very little help because he is going through a phase (oh Lord, please let it be a phase) where he isn't really considering serious options yet, ie- he currently thinks it would be awesome to name our children after movie characters (and while i love Lord of the Rings, i draw the line at naming my son Frodo). Full Article

Hi Duana, We are expecting a second baby girl in 2 weeks . We are stuck with our list - Carys has emerged at the top but I am struggling with pronunciation issues.  Carys in the native Wales would be Kah-riss, but over in N.America, it seems that Care-iss is most common. And I must say I prefer Care-iss. Full Article

My partner and I are having a hard time finding a name. I'm Irish/German and he's Brazilian/Mexican. (Our baby's last name will be Hispanic.) The names I've typically liked in the past (before we started dating) were names like Paige, Brooke, Cole, Owen...they don't really 'go' with his last name, and he doesn't like them. Full Article

Hi Duana, I have a girl middle name problem. Well I have a girl first name problem too but that is easier to overcome than the middle name issue. My husband and I have agreed I get to pick the middle names of our children because I took his last name and so will our kids (something I was waffling on before we got married). Full Article

Hi Duana! I am 5 months pregnant and my husband and I are having serious problems narrowing down our baby names. Essentially we can't agree on most names boy or girl. I think it's a good possibility our baby might be nameless for it's first month of life! The ONLY name we are both liking so far is the girl name Isla. Full Article

Hi Duana, My sister is expecting her 4th baby at the end of August and we've been throwing around potential names for her new girl. Her name is Melanie, and her kids names are Maia (May-ah not Mi-ah), Toby, and Madeline. She is having her third girl and wants to stick with another M name that flows well and has some sort of British background to it (nothing too American sounding). Full Article

Duana Names: Lys as in….?

Hi Duana, My question to you is: what do you think of the name Lys for a girl? We really like a short sweet name and Lilith and Ariel were our second and third choices respectively, but Lys is a bit more unusual. We also want it to refer to France were we used to live until very recently. I do worry it's a bit pretentious though, especially with both her parents working in the art world. Full Article

Hi Duana, We are having a baby girl in May. We have our names narrowed down to two, Avery and Charlotte, but they are both a compromise on my husband's part because the one name he really loves is Margaret. I can't get my head around it-- it seems like such a 'grown up' name for a toddler or teenager, one that our daughter will only grow into when she hits 40, or maybe not even until 60! What is your opinion on Margaret? We're not telling friends or family our names, so your opinion would be much appreciated!! Thanks, A ___ I know it feels like kind of a double-compromise when one of you loves the name and the other hates it but you might find there’s room for you to take another look here. Full Article

Hi Duana- I have an odd problem.  My 1 1/2 year old son is named Alexander.  It was the ONLY name my husband and I agreed on while we were looking for names.  We love the name and it suits our son perfectly.  The problem is we hate the nickname Alex.  I know, I know - what were we thinking?!  It wouldn't be a problem but, some people just automatically start calling him Alex. Full Article

Hi Duana, I have an Ava. Yes, the most popular name in the WORLD for the last 5 years running. Sigh. My husband actually chose the name and gave me such a touching reason for his choice I said YES while only 4 months pregnant. It wasn't until after that conversation that we realized how popular the name was. Full Article

Hi Duana, I would love to hear your opinion on our short-listed baby names. My husband and I are expecting our first baby any day now - a boy. We have Benjamin, William and Caleb on our short list, but they're only on the list because they haven't been eliminated. We are not in love with any of them. Full Article
