Naomi Campbell walked the runway at DVF yesterday for NY Fashion Week. At the same time, she, Iman, and Bethann Hardison are calling out some major designers for using only white models to present their collections. The issue has been raised before, but this is the first time specific labels have been highlighted, including:
They’re calling it a “racist act” in an open letter to the fashion people around the world and because of their stature within the media is paying attention:
Apparently the reason that some designers give for only having white girls wearing their clothes is “artistry”. No matter how colourful their pieces may be, they can only see their pieces on one colour.
The exceptions – Tom Ford, who personally selects all his models, and DVF, obviously, since Naomi flounced down the catwalk in her signature strut. Click here to see the DVF collection. No one walks like her. Do you find that there’s no more personality in how the models walk these days? Like, remember Yasmeen Ghauri?
