Natalie Portman, comedienne

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 17, 2010 09:00:00 November 17, 2010 09:00:00

Written by Sarah First, let’s get something straight. I don’t dislike Natalie Portman. I like her quite a lot, actually. She’s sharp, talented, and I generally like her movies. I don’t see all of them because she has a habit of making some pretty depressing stuff, but I enjoy her on screen. Full Story

I will make this happen

If you've been reading my blog long enough you know that forever ever ever I've been hoping for Natalie Portman and Ryan Gosling. Forever. They were briefly dealing with each other about a year and a half ago - a couple of friendly outings and text messages - but that died fast and never picked up again. Full Story

According to Deadline, now that he’s wrapped up Tom Hardy as the likely villain in The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan is currently looking for two female leads to play two parts: Bruce Wayne’s new love interest and a villain. His list right now includes Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, and Keira Knightley. Full Story

Black Swan is coming

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 12, 2010 09:12:09 November 12, 2010 09:12:09

It began in Venice, Black Swan being declared one of the best of the year and expected to contend at the Oscars. Then they went underground with the hype for a while, smartly I think, to make sure it didn’t buzz out before the release date on December 3rd. So we’re close now, a month away from the Golden Globe nominations and then it’s balls out from there. Full Story

Two trailers, two bad titles, and a January release

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 5, 2010 06:22:00 November 5, 2010 06:22:00

Love movie trailers. Hate getting to a movie late because I hate missing the trailers. Don’t understand why people complain about trailers. Even bad trailers. Bad trailers are 2 and a half minutes of saving your time later on. And you get to talk sh-t about it. What’s the problem? Two trailers were released online yesterday. Full Story

Then and Now

Last night it was Black Swan. I was underwhelmed with Natalie’s dress. It’s not sh-tty, it’s not jizzy, it’s just... ok? Maybe we built it up too much. Maybe they know it’s being built up too much. Maybe they’re trying to control the hype, especially since everyone is calling it already an Oscar contender and the film doesn’t release until December. Full Story

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2010 11:15:48 September 10, 2010 11:15:48

Written by Sasha For the last 5 years I’ve been working the Fashion beat at TIFF. And I’ll be honest: it’s sad seeing fashion that I can’t currently afford but it’s a cool way to get a few style cues from celebrities for the season ahead. It’s typically hotter than a mutha’ during the festival but the stars are definitely showing off fall! So once the fashion starts rolling in I’ll have more to say about what to look out for. Full Story

Natalie Portman > Scarjo & Blake

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 8, 2010 09:00:13 September 8, 2010 09:00:13

Remember when Scarlett Johansson was considered to be the top candidate to replace Angelina Jolie in Gravity (about a woman stranded in space) co-starring Robert Downey Jr? Five minutes later, somehow Blake Lively who, at the time, was working with Scarjo’s husband Ryan Reynolds, was auditioning for the role, and Scarjo’s position was much less secure. Full Story

Natalie surges ahead

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 2, 2010 07:53:00 September 2, 2010 07:53:00

Black Swan opened the Venice Film Festival yesterday and the reviews have been largely positive. Even when they’re not positive, they’re not total sh-t either, and the critics who love it, really really do love it, some even going so far as to call Black Swan Darren Aronofsky’s first masterpiece, with his leading lady, Natalie Portman, delivering what many agree to be the finest, most nuanced, most impressive performance of her career. Full Story
