October 22, 2015 – Smutty Shout-Outs
Last week I received a letter from a young man called Anthony Pacella. Anthony is 20 years old, the founder of StrikeOut Cancer Fund. His goal is to raise awareness for those suffering from lung cancer and to support their families. Anthony’s efforts are in memory of his ma, Mary Melillo Pacella, who never smoked but who lost her battle with lung cancer on January 6, 2011. Anthony would have been only 16 at the time and he told me that:
“There are a million words to describe what a perfect person my mother was. She left this world with two young children and a great husband. It is unexplainable to describe what we have gone through. Since my mother’s death, I am trying to live in her footsteps especially in her legacy. I hope to show others, especially young adults that anyone can make a difference in society no matter how young you may be. In addition, I would like to let others become aware that even non-smokers can be diagnosed with lung cancer.”
