October 31, 2013 - Smutty Shout-Outs
Congratulations to Gloria D of Toronto and her son Kris for winning our recent Homesense draw. So many of you took the time to write such beautiful tributes. It was an honour to read them all and we hope you enjoyed the process even if it didn’t lead to gift cards. Gloria and Kris will each receive a $400 gift card from Homesense. Below is Gloria’s email.
I am submitting my son, Kris for the Homesense card. In the last few years Kris and his wife have been through some very stressful times. The death of my mom, my daughter in law’s mom suddenly lost her vision, Kris went to rehab for alcohol addiction, April has struggled with anxiety issues.
On the upside, there was the birth of their first child, Mason, they bought their first home and Kris has been sober for 13 months! Through all this Kris has taken up a new hobby of baking. And he’s really good at it! In September he baked 10 banana loaves to sell at a fundraiser, the loaves were sold within 10 minutes and people were coming back asking for the recipe. He’s now teaching Mason how to bake cookies.
He’s a great guy who through it all has kept a positive attitude. I would love for him to win this and to be able to get himself a fancy new mixer.
Thank you again to everyone who participated and to Homesense for making it possible.
For Lala who waited it out with Digby until he went home and now he’s with his best friend – it was you who made the waiting so much more bearable for him, you who helped him get to the point where he was ready to go. There’s often no glory in a role like that, but it might be the most generous one of all: to know from the beginning that you’ll be left behind, and not ask them to stay, even though the loneliness awaits. He would have appreciated that selfless generosity. And so would she.
