We know he's on a hot streak right now. We know he's really coming into his own creatively. That he's more in demand than ever. His status as one of the chosen people was cemented by the fact that he was asked to appear in Kimmel's Post-Oscar show as a boldface name. That's a big deal. Full Story

According to what the Academy’s volunteers were doing at rehearsal on Saturday, Jennifer Garner, an official presenter, was supposed to walk with Ben Affleck. There were two people with their names clearly marked pretending to be the Afflecks on the red carpet. Garner ended up coming alone, as you know, but Affleck did join her at the Vanity Fair party afterwards. Full Story

I’m surprised too. Because you know how I feel about Elie Saab: same, same, same, boring, same, same, same. But maybe this is where Elie Saab excels: maternity wear? It’s a good colour on her. And I’ve decided I can only tolerate a nude underlay if it’s on a pregnant lady, although I wonder whether or not this is like my version of a fashion handicap and if that’s the case – is it insulting? Anyway, Elsa Pataky was there because her husband Chris Hemsworth presented with Charlize Theron. Full Story

It ain’t easy, OK? It’s not easy to get out there when you’re that big and pregnant and wear something that’s supposed to be an approximation of “glam”. But you do it because you’re Olivia Wilde. But what if you f-ck yourself over? What if you choose the ultimate dress …a little too early? Because come on. Full Story

Lady Gaga: Oscars Most Unwelcome

For someone who claims to exist purely for the fans, Lady Gaga wasn’t so much about the fans at the Oscars. The Academy sets up several sections of bleachers along the red carpet where fans can scream at their favourite stars. The call time for the fans is around 10:30am. But celebrities don’t start arriving until close to 3pm. Full Story

So, okay. Let us start with the Divine Miss M, who was self-effacing on the red carpet and then rather well-dressed in vertical stripes during her performance. Even though coming at the end of the In Memoriam segment can be a tricky place to be, Bette knows that that song lifts up everyone’s hearts and there won’t be a dry eye in the house, so she gears up to let it fly. Full Story

Pink: Best Oscars Red Dress Vocalist

Overheard in our hotel room just before the lights came up on Pink: “I hope she’s not on silks”. This prompted a chorus of “right?” and smartasses trying to outsmart one another… but then she started to sing and it all fell away. Why have I been looking at Pink on trapezes and silks for the last umpteen awards shows? That voice! She doesn’t need stunts and props. Full Story

On Saturday before the Oscars, the Academy makes the red carpet available to entertainment crews rehearsing live shows for the next day. That would include ABC, the official US broadcaster, hosted by Tyson Beckford who, holy sh-t, looks great but doesn’t think all that great, and E! with Ryan Seacrest. Full Story

Goldie Hawn: The “Cool” Oscars Mom

It was a night of moms tonight, and it was awesome. Jared Leto’s mom was much celebrated and beautiful and it didn’t even feel cheesy. Matthew McConaughey’s mother was wearing a kick-ass dress and clearly ran him like a train schedule. Steve McQueen’s mother standing up at the back of the room was one of my favourite moments of the night. Full Story

Kate Hudson: Worst Use Of An Oscar Dress

Kate Hudson walked in and everyone was like “Oh! Oh yeah!” It’s not that she’s become a punchline, exactly, but everyone knows what a Kate Hudson movie is, and there’s usually no Venn Diagram overlap between a Hudson pic and Oscars. So maybe we’ve forgotten that she has kind of a perfect face and a great voice and a little bit of an ability to stop traffic, at times. Full Story

I don’t remember hearing Tom Ford’s name once on the Oscar carpet this year. He normally only dresses just one person at an event. Or, you know, Hayden Panettiere buys it off the rack. You have to be at a certain level for Tom Ford. At the level of a Gwyneth Paltrow or Naomi Watts, Anne Hathaway, Beyonce, Charlize Theron – only Charlize has to stay with Dior contractually so, no, not Charlize. Full Story
