There’s a new Rooney Mara profile in the NYT Times magazine. She doesn’t call herself aloof this time. No, she doesn’t. But the word does appear in a list of words the writer cites as adjectives that have been used in the past to describe her. Which is why Rooney had to come up with something new…? I promise you, I tried. Full Story

Ben Affleck is Batman: the Nerd angle

Sarah Posted by Sarah at August 23, 2013 13:01:50 August 23, 2013 13:01:50

Well it’s definitely a better pick than some MTV pretty boy. The news that Ben Affleck will be Batman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel was greeted, predictably, with equal parts nerd-joy and nerd-rage. The joy mostly comes from Affleck being a proper actor—did they tease us with that MTV guy to make this look better?—with a hot career right now, and the rage comes from one thing: Daredevil. Full Story

Remember when some Teen Wolf actor tried to convince people that he could be Batman? Click here for a refresher. It makes that guy look even worse now. Because, well, they were obviously aiming a lot higher. Two weeks ago The Hollywood Reporter put out a long list that included Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin. Full Story

August 23, 2013 – Smutty Shout-Outs

Lainey Posted by Lainey at August 23, 2013 12:38:51 August 23, 2013 12:38:51

Andrea! Happy Birthday on Sunday! By request, here’s Ray Stevenson and, by approval, Chris Hemsworth. And why not? Let’s go Cate Blanchett, because if you’re generous on your day, he’ll be generous on his. That’s when you really get what you want. And for Sasha who is sick and worrying Beth and Caity – lying on a pile of fresh laundry is a good start. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Have you read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak? I referenced The Book Thief exactly 3 years ago here in a post arguing in favour of YA – that it’s underrated, that it’s ignorant to dismiss it on the basis of its classification, because otherwise you’d be deprived of a work like The Book Thief, as profound, complex, and insightful as any so-called adult literature, and arguably more accessible.  Read Full Intro

Victoria Beckham eats and smiles

NY Times Style profile on Victoria Beckham. You know what? She gives a good interview. She gives a FUN interview. So I’m not excerpting it because I don’t want you to miss out on her tone. She is at once cheeky, but also honest, and, when it counts, very serious, especially about her business. Full Story

I have been waiting and waiting for access to new pictures of Sara Carbonero and Iker Casillas for weeks. As you, I love them so much. And it was confirmed a few weeks ago that they’re expecting a baby. Here they are out for dinner in Madrid earlier this week. So it’s transition time for Iker, both personally and professionally. Full Story

Check out Madonna in Rome at the opening of her Hard Candy Fitness Club. As you can see, she’s wearing a grill. Why Is Madonna’s grill? Celebitchy posits that it might be about copying Miley Cyrus and staying young and relevant. I can’t argue with that. Full Story

Because someone needs to help him find some proper clothes. Look at him. In Japan promoting Man Of Steel. You know when you see those old timey ads from the early 1960s and the homemaker wife and kids wait for the worker husband to come home with his lunchbox? That's where Henry Cavill found his outfit. Full Story

First teaser for Jon Snow’s first leading role

Lainey Posted by Lainey at August 22, 2013 14:24:14 August 22, 2013 14:24:14

The movie is called Pompeii. As he told me a few months ago at the Game Of Thrones S3 premiere, it’s Kit Harington’s first leading film role. Obviously about Mt Vesuvius. Do they teach Mt Vesuvius the way they taught it in the prehistoric era when I grew up? Because it was fascinating, the way things that terrify us were fascinating back then. Full Story
