The timing…. It has been confirmed that Nelson Mandela has passed away. Tonight is the UK premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Prince William and Princess Catherine were in attendance. Mandela was 95 years old. The film has the endorsement of his family and Idris Elba’s performance was warmly embraced. Full Story

Princess Catherine and the pram

Pacific Coast News

Here are some blurry ass shots of Katy Cambridge pushing Little G around the park in a pram yesterday. She has at least one security with her as you can see but it’s a lot less HIGH ALERT than I thought it would be. I mean, she’s not surrounded. She’s got a few feet of freedom. Seems like a somewhat relaxed detail, right? The princess wants to pretend like she’s an ordinary mother with her infant just enjoying the day. Full Story

Prince Harry is trekking to the South Pole. In his absence, his ex-girlfriend and his current girlfriend showed up at the same party last night in London. Both Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas attended the Henry Van Straubenzee Christmas Carol Service. Check the difference in their expressions. Full Story

The new, real Mrs von Trapp

Here’s Anna Paquin walking around New York today, just hours before her husband, Stephen Moyer goes live in the NBC production of The Sound Of Music. Moyer is Captain von Trapp. Which, I guess, makes Anna the new real Mrs von Trapp…? Anna and Stephen have been living in New York for several weeks now during rehearsals. Full Story

Tom Hiddleston’s fairy movie

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 5, 2013 17:58:44 December 5, 2013 17:58:44

I deleted the knowledge that Tom Hiddleston is voicing Captain Hook in the latest Tinkerbell movie for Disney. It is in no way relevant to me, a grown-ass woman who does not have children to whom I must cater. So when Lainey emailed me about covering a new Tom Hiddleston trailer, I was thinking it was more Only Lovers Left Alive, or perhaps an advertisement for Coriolanus, which opens this week on London’s West End. Full Story

Never. But I do love the comments he made last night at the premiere of The Railway Man in London. It’s the true story of Eric Lomax who was captured during the Second World War, tortured, and made to work on Thai-Burma railway. Many years later he decided to confront his tormentor. Lomax is survived by his wife Patti who praised Full Story

Mrs Timberlake’s black holiday

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 5, 2013 16:26:05 December 5, 2013 16:26:05

Mrs Timberlake was out last night at the premiere for her film The Truth About Emmanuel which screened at Sundance and is currently available On Demand. A theatrical release will follow in January, which is typically where/when movies go to die. But, you know, it’s hard out there for an “indie” actress. Full Story

Click here for Part 1. Julie Plec giveth, and Julie Plec taketh away. I might be enjoying VD more as a bingewatch than I did watching every week.   Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees when there are so many cuts to black and so much going on and so many damn versions of Nina Dobrev everywhere. Full Story

The (almost) year of Benedict Cumberbatch

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 5, 2013 15:38:38 December 5, 2013 15:38:38

The Hollywood Reporter put Benedict Cumberbatch on the cover a few months ago, declaring him officially part of the A List. Click here to read Sarah’s piece at the time. All signs did indeed point, then, to it being the Year of Cumberbatch, especially since The Fifth Estate was about to screen at TIFF and everyone was already talking Oscar. Full Story

Andrew & Emma flirt in Spider-Man 2

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 5, 2013 15:04:00 December 5, 2013 15:04:00

The first full trailer has just been released. Andrew Garfield was wonderful as Peter Parker in the first (not really the first but the re-first) installment. And he’s just as appealing here as Peter grows more self-assured with his powers and responsibilities. Also, there’s an adorable flirting scene between him and Emma Stone. Full Story
