I was excited to see Gal Gadot at the Oscars. It’s Gal Gadot. Her face, it’s unreal. And she’s never, ever going to look like sh-t. And the possibility of seeing her in something bold, unexpected – I looked forward to it. But I think we now have to accept that she’s never going to bring the fashion porn. Full Story

Not Emma Stone’s Night

If one wonky thing happens to me in a day, I barely notice. If there are three – an annoying work call, a gross lunch, and a traffic jam, I might feel entitled to grump around for 15 minutes when I get home, even though what I just described is basically called ‘you have a ridiculously sweet life, shut up. Full Story

Saoirse’s familiar pink at the Oscars

One of my favourite Oscars behind-the-scenes stories is from 2013 when Anne Hathaway changed her dress last minute because she found out Amanda Seyfried was wearing something similar. The dress Anne Hathaway changed into was a pale pink Prada situation that, as Duana aptly noted at the time, “is not the dress to win your first Oscar in. Full Story

Jennifer Garner: Oscar meme

Every year, a celebrity in the audience at the Oscars becomes a meme when the camera cuts away to them and they’re serving some kind of face. It’s happened to Chrissy Teigen. It’s happened to Chris Pine. It happened to Meryl Streep, yes girling Patricia Arquette. Now it’s Jennifer Garner’s turn. Full Story

This was another one of those articles we all wanted to write. I think because Get Out affected each of us in a particular way. As I mentioned on Show Your Work, I only watched it recently, but have been thinking about it ever since. Full Story

While the Oscars were happening, Black Panther was busy winning the box office for the third weekend in a row. The movie has now grossed over $900 million worldwide. They’re predicting it’ll be officially a billion dollars next weekend. A BILLION.  The Oscars, then, as we’ve been saying, represented a victory lap for Wakanda, or perhaps just a pre-victory lap, considering there are some who predict that Black Panther could be a contender for next year’s Oscars, with the right marketing strategy. Full Story

The day after the Oscars we all have writing ebbs and flows, but I was doing OK productivity-wise until we started talking about the ages of various presenters/ nominees/ winners, and then I realized I’ve done nothing with my life and should probably just give up now. Yes, I know I was writing about how inspiring the show can be a few hours ago. Full Story

There were a number of people at the Oscars last night for the first time as presenters or nominees or both. What’s the strategy? Do you remember the first time Emma Stone was at the Oscars? She co-presented with Ben StillerFull Story

Kumail Nanjiani Won The Oscars

He didn’t, of course. He and his wife Emily V. Gordon were nominated for their screenplay The Big Sick and didn’t win, though it picked up Best First Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards the night before. I was anxious about this – The Big Sick was a totally worthy screenplay but my heart was with Get Out, so I had very complicated feelings – but ultimately I think Kumail had almost as big a night not winning as he would have had they won. Full Story

Janelle Monae 2067

I’m convinced that Janelle Monae is a time-travelling superhuman from 2067. She is too damn cool for us mere mortals of 2018. She also loves telling futuristic fantasies and sci-fi fairy tales through her music, just like a future space traveler would.    Look at this picture Janelle posted from the Vanity Fair Oscar party with Deray, Regina Hall, Rashida Jones, Gabrielle Union, Donald Glover, Lena Waithe and Chuck Lightning. Full Story

Thank God for Vanity Fair and the other parties, which have changed from being exclusive events where nominees sometimes changed clothes and avoided the ‘novelty invite’ people, to still-exclusive events that, it is acknowledged, might be more fun than the main event and give stars a chance to shake things up a bit. Full Story
