What? I’m just saying, they looked like they were having a lot of fun together on the red carpet. There are so many reasons to love Sofia Vergara a lot. This boring dress is not one of those reasons, but whatever. My point is she makes me smile. I look at her and I smile. I listen to her and I smile. Full Story

Slum Love at the Globes

She had to bring him. She had to. She could not face the Afflecks alone. I don’t understand why. If I’m JLO, I’d face the Afflecks alone every.single.time. Especially in this dress. No, I don’t like this dress. In fact, I think it’s a gross dress -- much more typical of Zuhair Murad than Marion Cotillard’s last week Full Story

Globes Groan: Lena Dunham

Oh my Lord with the Dunham and the backlash and the whiplash. Why is it that everyone else can have opinions about everything else but the Lena Dunham situation makes it impossible to have a dissenting opinion? After watching last night I have to suspect people feel protective of her. She’s so gosh-golly and I forget that part of it. Full Story

Globes Best Table: Julia and Leo

Any time Julia Roberts is there, hers in the best table, OK? This is the rule and it’s sacred. And when she’s seated next to Leonardo DiCaprio? Please. There’s no argument here. You won’t win this argument. How can you win this argument when she has her glasses on, probably lecturing him about something, or laughing about Jennifer Lopez’s waiter-bear, as her husband sits mute on the other side? And then there’s her dress. Full Story

Worst Globes Letdown: Anne Hathaway

I don’t know why it has to be so hard. Anne Hathaway started the night off so strong: white dress, as is often her wont, cute hair, and the key to everything – Amy and Tina on her side with a joke early on.  For a girl like me, someone who tries to like Anne Hathaway very much, and often feels like she gets a bad rap for being earnest, instead of the insufferable most people paint her as, there starts to be a little bit of hope. Full Story

Best Globes Jacket: Robert Downey Jr

You have to have a certain personality for this jacket. Ben Affleck could not have pulled off this jacket. Definitely not Leonardo DiCaprio. Ryan Gosling? You know what? Yeah, he probably could. And definitely, definitely RDJ. Love the colour, love the texture, love the length, love the bowtie, love it without the bowtie at the after-party too. Full Story

The issue, I think, with this dress in stills is that the chiffon kind of looks like it has a harsh edge. I felt that way and thought I didn’t like the hem – but then when I saw it moving, when she came out onstage (did we know she was that wee?)  and I fell in love with it. So sophisticated, so gorgeous, and most importantly, so easy. Full Story

Best Black Dress & Men’s Heels: Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban

It’s McQueen. It’s f-cking marvelous. And few women could do it justice the way Nicole Kidman can. I love the detailing around the neck. Is it bees? Golden bees? God when she does clothing right, there really is no one else. Look at it from the back. Stunning. Not a word I use often. But she is truly stunning. Full Story

Globes Best Acceptance of Limitations: Jon Hamm (Also, Jennifer Westfeldt)

I’m not going to comment on her face, because it’s sad. We all know it and maybe we know why it’s happening and either way it’s upsetting. So. I will however comment on Jon Hamm. Ryan Seacrest goes “so uh, now that you’re getting into directing, do you think you’re going to write some Mad Men, too?”  And Jon Hamm, God bless him, points out that the writers on his show are brilliant and that he himself cannot string two words together and that he won’t even be attempting it. Full Story

Best use of George Clooney

Please can we enjoy this moment again? I love this moment. I loved it when Amy Poehler sat on George Clooney’s lap when his category was being presented. Look at his face. Look at that smile. This is when I love him the most. He’s game, you know? As Duana said at the time, George Clooney is rarely pouty. Full Story

Globes Worst Olsen Twin – Kristen Wiig

How is it that other people get concern levied at them if they have too little eyeliner on but everyone just lets Kristen Wiig look nuts, and nobody says anything? The red hair and tan skin combined to make her look like nothing so much as the third Olsen twin, not least because she’s lost in the bottom of that dress. Full Story
