The new modern family

Mary-Kate Olsen is dating Olivier Sarkozy. She’s 26, he’s 42. Here they are in New York the other day with his daughter, a manifestation of the new modern family. Many of you are huffing about her smoking around the kid. I won’t get in the way of that except to say that Miss Sarkozy, given that her father runs in circles where meeting MK Olsen would even be possible, was probably already contaminated before MK entered her life. Full Story

The breaking of Johnny & Vanessa

Some more insight into the confirmation yesterday that Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis are over but first, the timing of the announcement was not an accident. They waited for all magazines to close on Monday before releasing their statement yesterday so that they’d be able to avoid the supermarket checkout this weekend. Full Story

Mark Wahlberg stopped into Letterman to promote his new movie Ted last week. It looks strange, but I love Seth MacFarlane so who knows. (Lainey: I do not love Seth MacFarlane but Ted to me looks awesome if only for that scene about white trash names for girls.) Anyway, during the anecdote portion of the Letterman interview, he received a huge whoop from the crowd for saying he’s going back to high school, online, to get his diploma. Full Story

Maleficent is camping?

For some reason, seeing the Jolie in costume as Maleficent in England today surrounded by bulls (I think they’re bulls but if they’re not I apologise - I am terrible at identifying animals) reminded me of True Blood Season 2 and that crazy ass maenad Maryanne. Wasn’t she really horny for a divine bull or something? God I hated that storyline so much. Full Story

Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock was named Best Actor Movie/Miniseries at the Critics’ Choice Awards last night in Beverly Hills. But Bendy (which is a much better nickname for him considering how seemingly elastic his face is, and this serves him well creatively, doesn’t it?) was in England, attending the premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man and didn’t collect his prize. Full Story

The day I learned how to look at my internet history is one of the saddest of my life.  Not because of what I looked at, per se, (although some days...) but because there's that tab for “Today”.  You can see all the stuff you looked at JUST TODAY, and how this links to that, and which thread you followed - you can actually see the time being wasted. Full Story

Johnny & Vanessa: officially done

They’ve confirmed that they have “amicably separated”. This after PEOPLE initially reported in January that they were all but over, living separate lives. Last month Johnny tried to deny it while promoting Dark Shadows but it looks like they couldn’t make the save. After 14 years and 2 children, it’s done. Full Story

As expected (basically as soon as they announced she’d be playing Sarah Palin it was expected), Julianne Moore won the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Movie/Miniseries last night for Game Change. Emmy nominations will be announced next month. There is no way she’s not called and, well, chances are she sweeps the Emmys, the Globes, and the SAGs too. Full Story

Don’t bet against The Lone Ranger

One of my absolute favorite movie-business memories is an oldie but a goodie: the expression on the faces of Disney executives after they got their first look at Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. I will never ever forget that look. It was what the F*CK and I don’t get it and OMG he really is crazy and we’re going to lose SO MUCH MONEY rolled into one. Full Story
