Anna Wintour’s the one showing some smile teeth...but are they friendly or are they grinding themselves down? It’s time to play our favourite game - drawing conclusions based only on photos, and this time, maybe multiple choice? A.Anna is drawing on every ounce of Britishness she has left in her, Dowager Maggie Smith styles. Full Story

Hot Harry back in fatigues

Prince Harry will spend the next four months in Afghanistan. It was always planned that he’d be heading back out there. The timing though is rather curious. You could say that this was the intended schedule from the very beginning. Or you could analyse this sh-t to death and look at it like this: A. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: On The Road

I can’t wait to hear people’s reactions to this movie. Director Walter Salles was faced with a daunting task, one that many might argue was virtually impossible to successfully accomplish: turn Jack Kerouac’s barely fictionalized autobiography, On The Road, often referred to as one of the most important novels of the century, into a film that wouldn’t crumble under the weight of such tremendously high expectations. Full Story

Very well done. Even if the hits are coming, you take them anyway. It’s a character building approach. And it’s a much stronger strategic move than that apology. A friend and I were discussing this last night. He compared the apology, the delivery of it, the desperateness of it, the theatricality of it, to 10 Things I Hate About You, or any dramatic declaration in a high school movie in which one of the leads expresses to the other lead, in the most public way possible, like in the cafeteria, that I Love You or I Miss You. Full Story

Did I miss the part where they actually introduced these girls?   I mean, I know the Olympics wasn’t long ago, but we’re used to seeing them all in skintight leotards and the same skinned-back hairstyle.  It’s not like we’re at the point where there’s full facial recognition when they’re dressed like people, especially on a really, really wide shot. Full Story

I’m into whatever Miley Cyrus is selling these days.  Engaged? Sure.  Sassy new haircut that somehow reverberated around the world?  All over it.  I had to look up what she’s actually working on right now – but that in itself isn’t a bad thing. I don’t understand why she had to stifle The Haircut though – like, isn’t one of the points of a short haircut that you can kind of dress it up or down?  I was sort of looking forward to seeing those sassy pieces flopping all over the place – kind of a Chelsea cut that didn’t take itself too seriously. Full Story

Taylor Swift at the VMAs: boring but good shoes

Duana Posted by Duana at September 7, 2012 14:35:04 September 7, 2012 14:35:04

To rail at someone for one thing – being too much of a childish cutesy-poo when at awards shows, just for example – and then, when they change that, sniff that it still isn’t good enough, is kind of the height of bitchiness.  But that’s how I felt about Taylor Swift anyway. Full Story

Things about the Twilight contingent’s presentation that were gross, in no particular order: -Peter Facinelli’s dead-eyes as he calculated how much of his salary is worth him doing endless teen press. -Taylor Lautner’s tan and sad uncomprehending smile. Does he know what’s actually going on, often?  Sometimes I’m not sure. Full Story

I wonder if the producers knew that this was not going to be the awards show that anyone remembers past today.  I don’t know.  Do they think “oh man, we have a sick lineup, this is going to be amazing”?  Because while it was fine production-wise and musically, the show just didn’t surprise. Full Story
