Similar Met Bumps: Kate Hudson & Jessica Alba

I read somewhere, I can’t remember where, that Alba’s ensemble last night was one of the best. What? This is Jessica Alba, who is pregnant, in a no-colour Ralph Lauren, and I don’t see how this can be characterised as anything other than a mess. Look at that material. You know what that is? Go to Toys R Us. Full Story

Met Prom: Ashley Greene & Jennifer Hudson

The Met Gala is not the prom. But you know, without fail, some people come to this thing thinking it’s like their own wedding. This explains why Jennifer Hudson chose Vera Wang. That’s a wedding dress, it’s a prom dress, it’s certainly not a high fashion dress, but then again, Andre Leon Talley once styled her for the Oscars like an asshole so maybe she’s a little gun shy in the sartorial game. Full Story

Met Fishtails: Beyonce & Christina Ricci

Have a feeling we’ll be fighting about this one. Christina Ricci is in Zac Posen. It’s exquisite. I mean, from a design perspective, it’s all you want at the Met Gala. Drama, imagination, quality, craftsmanship... But I feel like it might be the right dress on the wrong person. I don’t know that she’s really rising with it. Full Story

17-off at the Met: Dakota & Saoirse

I suppose, if there’s anyone who could get away with the Valentino flower tulle explosion worn by Dakota Fanning at the Met Gala it was probably Dakota Fanning. She’s 17. Prom is still within the parametres of her actual experience. But f-ck is this thing ever ugly. And you have to wonder – did they really design this for 18 and under? I don’t think so. Full Story

Best Met Photobomb: Gisele & Ginnifer

Check out Gisele Bundchen’s face behind Ginnifer Goodwin last night. Amazing, right? Shall we Photo Assumption? Errrrm... who invited all these Bs? Is that the girl from Twilight with the really bad pixie wig? To be fair, Ginnifer Goodwin is a few steps ahead of Ashley Greene. And her makeup is great. Full Story

The Costume Institute Gala 2011

Before we begin blogging the Met Gala and the photos... It’s the Met Gala. So... there’s some license here on the edge if you want it. Drama is good. Weird could be good too. Remember it’s not the Oscars and Los Angeles. It’s New York. And these are Fashion People. And they get it. Full Story

Happy 17th Birthday Mairead with so much love from your sister Deirdre who asked for some Eminem pictures which, as she noted, can be rare. Em performs at Bonnaroo in June. That might be the next chance for new pics. But how about a video? No Love is a great song to run to on my iPod. Please see below. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Pippa did NOT go home with Harry. We have some work to do yet on that book. And I am still not over the Royal Wedding. I was sad to wash my hair yesterday because it felt like I was washing away the way I wore it on Friday, and London, and the experience.  Read Full Intro

Met Gala Preview: the Royal McQueen

As noted in the open, the Costume Institute Gala goes down tonight and it’s a tribute to the late Lee McQueen and his label Alexander McQueen. Great timing. On Friday, Kate Middleton arrived at Westminster Abbey in a gown designed by Sarah Burton, the Creative Director of the House of McQueen and now just three days later, McQueen is being celebrated at the most high profile fashion event of the year. Full Story

Last summer I read a book called One Day. And I wrote about it incessantly afterwards. I was even optimistic when I found out they were making the movie, because David Nicholls is a screenwriter too, and One Day was easily adaptable. When they cast Anne Hathaway as Emma and Jim Sturgess as Dex, I was beyond excited. Full Story
