Carey Mulligan was named Best Actress last night at the British Independent Film Awards in London for Never Let Me Go. Carey looks great in the face – SO pretty – but I’m not into this dress. It’s like an apron. And also the black shoes. Not feeling those either. As for The Great Gatsby, Carey talked to the BBC about beating out so many others for the role of Daisy and gave some more detail about when production is to begin: “I'm still in shock. Full Story

Colin takes two

While the National Board of Review awarded Best Actor to Jesse Eisenberg, The Washington DC Film Critics chose Colin Firth. Firth also took home the Best Actor award, not surprisingly, last night at the British Independent Film Awards in London. It’s undeniable that he’s the favourite, which is a great position to be in, but also a sucky one. Full Story

Where’s Garrett?

TRON: Legacy premiered in London last night. Both Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges were there to support it. Also several members of the Glee cast. But no Garrett Hedlund. With movie budgets these days, overseas markets are a big deal. The UK market is a big deal. And for the film’s lead not to show. Full Story

Love this so much. As mentioned earlier in the Jeremy Renner article, The Social Network was named Best Film last week by both the National Board of Review and the Washington DC Film Critics Association. Both organisations also honoured David Fincher for Best Director and Aaron Sorkin for Best Screenplay (adapted). Full Story

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal spent the weekend in Sydney promoting the movie. A reader there called Aphrodite K hit up the premiere and wrote me the cutest email with her observations. Today, December 6 2010, I had my first (brief, glorious) encounter with Jake Gyllenhaal, more affectionately known as Jakey G. Full Story

I wonder if they get sick of seeing their own movie. Even if they love that movie. Even if it’s the passion project of a lifetime, I wonder if there isn’t a little fatigue about it, especially when we’re coming up on a year of promoting it. Like, everywhere. Blue Valentine premiered exactly 11 months ago at Sundance. Full Story

Jeremy Renner...hot?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 6, 2010 07:33:45 December 6, 2010 07:33:45

Jeremy Renner arrived in Vancouver this weekend to resume work on Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol, what a dumb name. Isn’t it? Whatever. Dumb name or not, I’ll probably go. It’ll be released next year, December 16, 2011. Tom Cruise wants a piece of the holiday box office. Right now though he has to focus on getting the film on budget and on schedule. Full Story

Over the last few weeks we’ve been discussing the American Express Canada “Potentialist” – a type of person who is rethinking what life is all about and who is finding ways to enrich her/his life through meaningful experiences. For some it’s about the challenge of exploring new places, and for others like Natalie Portman Full Story

The Brange spent the weekend in New York in advance of tonight’s premiere of The Tourist at the Ziegfeld Theatre. On Saturday the Brange hit up Lee’s Art Shop with the Holy Twins. It’s a family favourite – they’ve previously been there with all four of their other kids, now it’s time for Twin initiation. Full Story

December 6, 2010 – Smutty Shout-Outs

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 6, 2010 06:25:00 December 6, 2010 06:25:00

Big ups to Canadian hero, icon, and all around badass Rick Hansen who was in the Middle East last week; it’s the 25th Anniversary for his Man In Motion World Tour (25 years!!!). Here’s Rick at the Terry Fox Memorial in Jerusalem. And at the Allenby Bridge between Jordan and Israel – he crossed there 25 years ago too, and this accomplishment required cooperation by the Canadian, Jordanian, and the Israeli governments. Full Story
