Deadpool had a crazy weekend at the box office, destroying every record for February no matter which way you slice it—opening day, single day, Thursday preview, R-rated debut, the four-day President’s Day weekend frame. For the three-day weekend it’s pulled an estimated $135 million, with $150-160 million for the four-day holiday—I think the actuals will be higher, based on a strong Sunday. Full Story

Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool

Sarah Posted by Sarah at February 15, 2016 14:40:52 February 15, 2016 14:40:52

The mistake in talking about Deadpool is to think that it is in any way subversive of the superhero genre—it isn’t. A long-gestating passion project for producer and star Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool is thoroughly a superhero movie, and a pretty conventional origin tale. Further, it overindulges in the snarky, glib-bordering-on-smug tone honed in the Marvel Studios-produced Avenger movies, so even though it is not part of that universe but is in fact part of Fox’s X-Men universe, Deadpool leans heavily on expectations created by the other Marvel superhero movies. Full Story

Katy Perry will not be attending the Grammy Awards tonight. She did, however, host her own pre-Grammys party on Saturday and hopes to make the event an ongoing Grammys tradition, telling the New York Times that she wanted to create an event for the “creators” only – not managers, not publicists, but just the artists. Full Story

Last night at the BAFTAs – Leonardo DiCaprio was named Best Actor, Alejandro G Inarritu took Best Director, and The Revenant won Best Picture. So, just in case you’ve been missing the last several weeks, there is no way Leo’s losing the Oscar. Maybe not even if he marries a 14 year old. Full Story

Spoilers, Obviously The Walking Dead returned from its mid-season hiatus, picking up right where it left off with Alexandria still under zombie-siege and Rick & Co. split up. We start with a promising stand-off between Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham, and a group of men who invoke for the first time the name “Negan”, the comic book villain who probably won’t even show up until the very end of the season (just in time to kill Glenn, I bet you anything). Full Story

Dear Gossips,

HBO released a batch of new photos for the upcoming season of Game Of Thrones yesterday. I’ve attached a few below and to see more click here. Why does the Khaleesi look so hesitant and unsure of herself in all of these shots? This worries me.  Read Full Intro

The Kanye West Taylor Swift situation….

I’ve been thinking about it all day. And trying to write about it. But I can’t get it out, because I don’t know that it’s over. I feel like there’s more. That it’s not over. So I’m waiting. Waiting to see how the rest of this plays out. And whether or not some of it will play out at the Grammys. Please know then that I do intend to post about it. I just want to think on it longer. All good?
