Here’s your feel-good story of the day. Nate Parker, the actor best known for Beyond the Lights, basically quit acting right when he was getting some traction off that movie in order to make Birth of a Nation, about Nat Turner and his doomed slave revolt in the 1830s. Parker produced, directed, and stars in the movie, and he also co-wrote the screenplay. Full Story

He and Elaine have worked together before. Full Story

The X-Files came back big

The X-Files returned on Sunday night and even with a time delay thanks to championship football, the ratings were REALLY good. Even allowing for spillover football fans who tuned out within the first few minutes of the show, The X-Files pulled around 13.5 million viewers, which is great for the current state of network TV, especially if you’re not a procedural on CBS. Full Story

Gwyneth Paltrow spent the weekend in Europe. She was photographed promoting Audi in Austria. Most likely a paid opportunity? But it’s also Paris Fashion Week. And today was the Chanel Haute Couture presentation. So, why not? Especially when there’s always a seat for her in the front row and Karl Lagerfeld could have someone send over an outfit (that doesn’t seem to fit quite right around the waist)? This, by the way, is Karl’s version of “eco-couture”, another reason why G, who’s all natural and organic now, would have approved. Full Story

As expected, since the #OscarsSoWhite situation has dominated the entertainment landscape the last couple of weeks, the question is being asked of celebrities at Sundance. Dear Gossips,

I read a lot of Dirty Grandpa reviews this weekend. Because the movie seemed to bring out the creative best in film critics. Sarah’s review will be posted later this morning. Dirty Grandpa is currently scoring at 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Read Full Intro

I think Saint Tom the Huge Dork is gone for good

Sarah Posted by Sarah at January 25, 2016 20:59:49 January 25, 2016 20:59:49

I’ve been missing Saint Tom the Huge Dork, as Tom Hiddleston has deliberately lowered his profile over the last couple years. Saint Tom the Huge Dork was born of the glory days when he was last promoting 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, and doing silly dances all over the place and generally being a huge dork. Full Story

No one speaks for Chris Rock

As the #OscarsSoWhite situation continued to dominate the Oscars last week, there was much speculation about whether or not Chris Rock would step down as host. On the weekend, one of the producers of the show, Reginald Hudlin, seemed to confirm that Chris would move ahead with hosting and that his monologue is being retooled to address the controversy: "Chris is hard at work. Full Story

Step aside, Ben, it’s Casey’s turn

It is my opinion that between the Affleck brothers, Casey is the better all-around actor. He can do character work, he can carry as a lead, he can disappear into roles or look sufficiently Hollywood, depending on how “visible” you want your star to be. Ben Affleck has proven to be a better filmmaker than anyone expected, but Casey, for my money, delivers much more as an actor than Ben does. Full Story
