Guy Ritchie stepped out last night in London with Jacqui Ainsley and son Rocco who turns 15 years old later this summer and is clearly looking more and more like Ridgemont High’s Jeff Spicolo, famously played, of course, by his mother’s ex-husband Sean Penn. It started last year when Madonna posted this shot Full Story

Spoilers, but also like, the title Like Whiplash before it, one film won both the Audience Award and the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance this year: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Whiplash went on to bag five Oscar nominations, winning three of them. I don’t know if Dying Girl will have the legs to carry it all the way to Oscar—it’s not as ferocious a movie as Whiplash, and it lacks a fiery, attention-getting performance—but it is certainly a very good movie, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see it pull an Adapted Screenplay nomination, if nothing else, telling the story of awkward high school student Greg’s senior year, in which he befriends a terminally ill classmate, struggles with his future, and falls out with his best friend. Cara Delevingne is pretty irresistible. It’s not just that you can’t help but like her, it’s also that you can’t help but go along with whatever it is that she wants to do. And she’s always a good time. This is why so many celebrities end up on her Instagram, being goofs. Full Story

Coming out of Cannes, Denis Villeneuve’s latest film, Sicario, received very positive reviews, with many singling out Emily Blunt’s performance as a possible awards contender. Since breaking out with the Oscar-nominated Incendies in 2010, Villeneuve has established himself as a consistently compelling director of thrillers, and many think Sicario could be his first major mainstream hit (Prisoners was a modest success in 2013). Angelina Jolie and son Pax were in Namibia recently, visiting the N/a’ankuse Foundation which aims to protect wildlife and prevent human-wildlife conflict. I bought Janet Jackson tickets on presale yesterday. Set my alarm for it at 10am to click on the AMEX Front Of The Line link. September 15 in Toronto. During TIFF. I thought that would be my highest Miss Jackson point of the day.
But then I listened to the 43 seconds of new music she posted on Twitter. God her voice sounds so much like Michael’s. At the end of that clip though?
That feels like it’s about to kick in to a funky ass beat, right?
Or, you know, it doesn’t have to. Janet’s given us a lot of ballads too. The last time I saw her on tour – and this was a looong time ago – she did a Come Back to Me/Let’s Wait A While/Again medley that I call up on YouTube a couple of times a year.
So yeah, if the new album is ballads, that works for me too.
Here’s Janet at LAX yesterday looking like she’s in tour shape. I just got goosebumps.

Allison Janney and Ellen Page are back together, seen here yesterday on the set of Tallulah in New York. Coincidentally, it’s another movie about a baby. The baby’s mother is evidently a f-ck up. So Ellen rescues her and pretends she’s the mother instead, helped by her boyfriend’s mother, presumably played by Allison. Full Story

Fan Bingbing at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Did you hear about the social media fight she got into with Wang Sicong this week? Wang Sicong is the 27 year old son of the richest man in China. He recently posted a photo of his dog wearing two Apple watches, one around each leg. Each watch is valued at $10,000. Full Story
Kristen Wiig was photographed on the set of the new Ghostbusters movie, looking rather dowdy in her costume. I’m into this—one of the best parts of OG Ghostbusters is that the guys aren’t hero-types. They’re awkward nerds who get excited about science, and Wiig’s costume is giving me hope that’s the holdover spirit uniting the two movies. Full Story
