Finally had a chance last night to watch the full episode of Saturday Night Live with Ryan Gosling hosting. Last week I had some expectations. Then a few of you emailed and said it was sh-t. Sarah thought it was ok but not great. Because of this, because I was bracing for terrible, I actually liked it. Full Story

Marc Jacobs announced last night that Winona Ryder is the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty. It’s the first time she’s fronted a line of beauty products. And it makes total, total, total sense. As he says on his Instagram post, they’ve known each other a long time. He’s dressed her for years. Full Story

Production on Ben Affleck’s Live By Night has moved to Los Angeles, or at least it was there yesterday. Ben and Sienna Miller were both photographed on set in costume yesterday with Sienna going full moll. Since it was announced that Sienna was cast in the film, we’ve all been trying to make this happen, right? Ben and Sienna? Gossip Genie? The tabloids are all over it but to my knowledge, there’s nothing there. Full Story

Jennifer Jason Leigh’s Oscar moment

There has been an unusual amount of focus on the actress categories in the Oscar race this year, because for once there is an overabundance of worthy performances by actresses. Usually, these categories lock up pretty early with a clear frontrunner and the obvious runners-up, and it feels like we kind of scrape around the barrel looking for one or two people to round out the list of top ten female performances in a year. Full Story

Channing is the other one

In the previous post about Mark Wahlberg, I mentioned that there are two names that will always elicit screams from our audience at The Social. Channing Tatum is the other one. You just have to say “Channing Tatum” and people lose their f-cking minds. Now this I can support. Channing Tatum deserves it. Full Story

I mentioned Daddy’s Home yesterday in my post about Chris Hemsworth and In The Heart Of The Sea – click here for a refresher. The question was about the audience for that film because Star Wars is eating everything. Some of you wrote back to say that In The Heart Of The Sea is for our dads. Full Story

Hipsters cheat too

Lainey Posted by Lainey at December 8, 2015 15:31:47 December 8, 2015 15:31:47

He’s a hipster musician, in one of those acclaimed bands that shows up on Saturday Night Live once a year, or at least that’s how it feels like to me, who sometimes gets into Twitter fights with actual musical legends. Of course he’s smug, and he talks a lot of trash. Also, he steps out on his wife. Full Story

Fargo 2.9: The Massacre at Sioux Falls

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 8, 2015 15:19:14 December 8, 2015 15:19:14

Fargo Season 2, Episode 9 recap.  SPOILERS So the Sioux Falls Massacre, this famed event we’ve been barreling toward from two different eras, goes down at the Motor Motel in Sioux Falls, and it’s a totally avoidable, completely unnecessary tragedy. But it is, like so many other things that happen on Fargo, the result of assumption and lack of forethought. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

The Golden Globe nominations are coming on Thursday, exactly one month before the show on January 10, 2016. Lee Daniels could be there to represent Empire. Can someone please invite Sean Penn too?

As you recall, Lee namechecked Sean in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter a few months ago when answering a question about Terrence Howard’s reputation. Click here for a refresher. And after all that’s been written about Sean Penn over the years, after all the times we’ve heard about his violent and fisty ways, he decides it’s Lee Daniels he wants to go after? Sean Penn is suing Lee for defamation.

On Thursday, Lee countered with a motion to dismiss the suit, with his lawyers writing that he refuses to be intimidated and that what he said is protected by free speech. Lee’s motion also cites a number of published articles referring to Sean’s “Horrifying History of Alleged Abuse”.

“With fame, money and high-priced legal counsel, Penn has the power to buy most things. Fortunately for Daniels, the First Amendment is not for sale. Penn’s complaint is merely a blunt force instrument wielded in an attempt to control the narrative of his life and to expunge the alleged misdeeds sensationalized in the press for decades. While Penn may have personally experienced the challenged statement as offensive, he must now demonstrate that the statement is reasonably susceptible to a defamatory meaning. He has not, and cannot. The challenged statement is constitutionally protected opinion, and New York courts have repeatedly emphasized the need to summarily reject defamation claims brought to bully those who dare exercise their constitutional right of free speech."

Did Sean Penn expect Lee Daniels to put his head down and apologise?

Is he prepared to go to trial and have a court analyse Lee’s comments, and offer proof that before Lee made those comments, his public image was pristine? Show me, is what Lee Daniels is telling him, chest out, arms wide open.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

Starting the week with Charlie Hunnam photos? Auspicious, I think. I told you our dodgeball team made the finals on Friday, right? We won! We’re the champions (of local community dodgeball, but still, whatever)! Everyone keeps asking (because I keep telling them) whether or not we got a trophy. Full Story
