Of course there were props for her win. Like, actual edible props. She seemed like the Pied Piper of Cookies as she passed them around, and it did something amazing: It started half the speech FOR her. How ingenious is that? When you only have 29 seconds, why waste time introducing the character for those who don’t know? Cookie, of course, is the only topic here. Full Story

Rachel Bloom & Gina Rodriguez: The Globes CW Love Continues

Are you watching My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? Unlike Mr. Robot, that one is still underground, even after last night’s win. It hasn’t taken over the conversation so you have time, and it is great. You want to be watching this show, to marvel that they can DO THAT on TV and have it be great and watchable and, as Rachel Bloom pointed out, actually seen by the world. Full Story

Alicia Vikander & Michael Fassbender: losing smiles at the Globes

Seated together at the Globes. Losing together at the Globes. But smiling together at the Globes. There are some people who think that Alicia is leveraging her relationship with Michael for attention. For votes and profile. Which, I get it. I know that move. I love calling out that move. But that move only works if the person being exploited is actually a deal. Full Story

America Ferrera & Eva Longoria: Best Globes Joke

It was the best joke. Because people expect jokes from Aziz Ansari and Ricky Gervais and Will Ferrell. Even from Amy Schumer. But they don’t expect jokes from ‘straight’ actresses, and that’s why it was so great to hear Eva and America point out that they were neither Gina nor Eva (Mendes) nor Rosario, but that they were possibly either Salma or Charo. Full Story

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Sombre Golden Globes Fashion

I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress, which was not surprising to me because I usually love Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress. She’s so good at choosing patterns and proportions that work for her. But – just gonna come out and say it – is she ever happy? It’s just all very serious all the time. Full Story

Sylvester Stallone: Golden Globes omission

Lainey Posted by Lainey at January 11, 2016 15:55:53 January 11, 2016 15:55:53

BALBOA!!! For months I've been hoping for this one. Sylvester Stallone is the sentimental favourite of this award season. He received the standing ovation to prove it. But up until last night, though it seems hard to believe now, he was not the frontrunner. Some experts didn't even have him on their predictions lists as late as last week. Full Story

Maura Tierney: Globes Double-Edged Sword

Last year, The Affair won the big prize. Best Drama. So people were surprised, this year, when there were no corresponding nominations, based on how much richer and deeper the show was in season two, and how beloved it had been by the HFPA in season 1. No nominations except one—for Maura Tierney playing Helen Solloway, a character who has been my favourite of the four leads all year, and who is marvelously layered. Full Story

Olivia Wilde: Golden Globes Poor Posture

Every time I watch something with Olivia Wilde in it, I’m reminded that I like her. I don’t understand why it’s hard for me to remember in between times. But there’s something about looks like this that give me an idea.   It’s just so slouchy. She seems slouchy, even though I think she probably has to stand up very straight to make that dress work right. Full Story

Matt Damon: way back in second

As expected, Matt Damon won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy last night. The entire room knew that Leo was going to take Best Actor Drama. So his goal was to use his speech to present himself as an alternative to the Academy. Hey, you put me up on stage, and this is what I can do. Remember, America loves me too. Full Story

Bryce Dallas Howard: Globes Self-Styled

Let’s start with this – I like the dress. I’m always going to be partial to a Jenny Packham anyway, but I liked the scales/feathers on the sleeves, and that it had a different silhouette than a lot of the ‘take on a strapless column’ we saw from a lot of the others.  And if you somehow didn’t hear the deal with the dress—are you one of those wise people who just watches the show?—when asked who she was wearing, Bryce Dallas Howard didn’t just answer. Full Story

Jane Fonda: Golden Globes Least Impressed

I know I’m brilliant and all, but I want you to skip to the end of this article and just look at the full-length image of Jane Fonda in her dress.  I love this dress. I love how proud and absolutely serious she looks. Like, do not be fooled by the yards of fabric that engulf me but stop sharply at my elbows – I am a focused and serious person. Full Story
