Anomalisa This is Charlie Kaufman’s sophomore directorial effort, seven years in the making and with an assist by Duke Johnson, who directed Community’s animated episodes. Anomalisa is a flat-out astounding film, where stop-motion puppets peel their faces off but also enact realistic and intimate love scenes, and it swings from one of the single funniest lines of dialogue this year to one of the most painful break-ups. Full Story

Michael Fassbender is really going for it in Assassin’s Creed

Just under a year from now, Michael Fassbender will attempt to break the video game curse with an adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed. The film wrapped principal photography just before Christmas, so we’re starting to see images from the movie, giving us some idea of what Fassy will look like as a medieval assassin caught up in a shadow war with the Knights Templar. Full Story

USA Today has named Taraji P Henson the Entertainer of the Year. I love this choice. I suspect Duana might love this choice, not only because it’s Taraji, but because Taraji’s accomplishment is directly tied to television. Usually these titles are bestowed upon the actors in the movies. Full Story

A New Year’s gift from the Monaco royals… It’s Prince Albert, with Serene Charlene, and their twins, Jacques and Gabriella, in a rare joint interview about their first year as parents. And, I think?, this is supposed to be their relatable side? I mean otherwise the palace wouldn’t have released it, right?
