Maps to the Stars is arguably the most polarizing film of the year, but it's one you should see, if you can stomach it. David Cronenberg’s provocative portrayal of Hollywood chronicles the lives of two dysfunctional families and their encounters with sex, violence and incest. But, according to Cronenberg, it's not satirical, and is about more than celebrity culture. Full Story

Oh Brooklyn. You gave him a reason. I mean, he never really needs a reason. But now he’s just made it his thing. So Justin Bieber was at Fashion Rocks last night. As he stepped on stage to present with model Lara Stone, the crowd started hissing. In response, he took his shirt and pants off, then did a few lunges in his underpants. Full Story

Ethan’s shiny suit

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2014 15:05:46 September 10, 2014 15:05:46

Ethan Hawke was on my list for TIFF. It’s a Reality Bites thing. I had to see him. Last night was the premiere of Good Kill. After the screening, Ethan, Jake Abel, and director Andrew Niccol were at Storys for the afterparty. The suit was shiny in person but in pictures, that’s extra. Ethan was chatty. Full Story

Of course he is. It’s not like he really has anything else going on. Over the weekend, Bloom appeared at Oz Comic-Con in Brisbane and said during a panel discussion that he had met with producers about possibly returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Bills Bills Bills. Full Story

The Kit has a new interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. It took place a few months ago, just weeks before the “conscious uncoupling”. She talks about her relationship with Apple, about how Apple is into clothing and makeup. She also talks about acting, how it’s become her side job now because it’s too time-consuming and that mainly she’s a business woman now, running a thriving company. Full Story

Nobody's saying Channing Tatum can't pull his weight. But with Foxcatcher, in walks a real contender: an all-around movie star and actor. Tatum plays Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz, who walks into a room, shoulders first, with his jaw always clenched. Naive and living a mostly solitary life, he trains with his brother, a fellow celebrated wrestler, Dave (Mark Ruffalo), then comes home to a bowl of Ramen. Full Story

Drinks on the plane

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2014 13:08:29 September 10, 2014 13:08:29

It’s an hour to fly from Toronto to New York. By the time you go up, it’s almost like you have to go down again. But she was desperate, desperate for a drink. Even before take-off. Which was not allowed on this flight. She was told she’d have to wait. And she didn’t want to wait. Full Story

Taylor Swift: Sorry not sorry

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2014 13:02:06 September 10, 2014 13:02:06

Taylor Swift covers Rolling Stone. It’s the BEST celebrity magazine profile of the year. No question. And by best I mean the most entertaining. The juiciest. GREAT for gossip. I could not get enough. I had to read it twice, back to back, because I didn’t want it to be over. So, if you haven’t already, set aside 10 minutes today and make sure you’re not interrupted. Full Story

September 10, 2014 – Smutty Shout-Outs

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2014 12:14:34 September 10, 2014 12:14:34

Beej – I’m sorry to hear about your Ratty, sh-tty year. You now what the Squawking Chicken would say though? The work and the hospital drama have been challenging, no doubt. But the asshole who left? He might have done you a favour. I know it doesn’t feel that way now. But you’d be amazed at how luck can change when a toxic presence isn’t in your life anymore. Full Story

PROGRAMMING NOTE: I’ve been having some technical issues today with hardware and we’re still trying to sort it out. Basically I fried two laptops in one week. And my ma was just in here the other day telling me that my office has bad luck. She is ALWAYS right. Unfortunately this means that we’ll have to push content to tomorrow. So sorry for the inconvenience and also I apologise to those of you who’ve been waiting for the Tom Hardy and Taylor Swift posts. We will get to that first thing in the morning.
