PROGRAMMING NOTE: I’ve been having some technical issues today with hardware and we’re still trying to sort it out. Basically I fried two laptops in one week. And my ma was just in here the other day telling me that my office has bad luck. She is ALWAYS right. Unfortunately this means that we’ll have to push content to tomorrow. So sorry for the inconvenience and also I apologise to those of you who’ve been waiting for the Tom Hardy and Taylor Swift posts. We will get to that first thing in the morning.

Julianne Moore in Still Alice: TIFF review

Julianne Moore’s unrelenting commitment to her characters and epic crying face merits a thousand viral video super-cuts. Critically appreciated, but woefully under-awarded, 2014 could be the year she receives her fifth (or sixth) Oscar nomination with her prodigious turns in both Still Alice, and Maps to the Stars. Full Story

RDJ: Cars and cheeseburgers

RDJ covers the new issue of Vanity Fair in advance of the Team Downey release of The Judge. It's a standard RDJ interview, which means he's forthcoming, if not always comprehensible, and generous, and unapologetic without sounding defensive. As always, RDJ speaks openly about his addiction and while I wondered at a point when/if we would ever get to a point where that wouldn't be a story, he is still living with it -- it's a disease, like cancer, like ALS -- so why wouldn't he continue to talk about it? Especially since he believes he's passed it on to his son. Full Story

Check these pictures of Victoria Beckham going shopping yesterday in New York. Pretty summer dress. But…are these the right shoes? I don’t hate the shoes. In fact, they’re great. I’d want them if I could walk in them. Under a pair of shorts? Totally. Even a leather skirt. Full Story

Reese Witherspoon in Wild: TIFF Review

Can you picture the perfectly perky Reese Witherspoon hiking through 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail to search for herself? She couldn't either -- at first. "I had never seen myself in a movie like that before," said Witherspoon, at the Wild press conference in Toronto. But, Witherspoon's role in Wild is one every actress would salivate over, and is her best performance in nearly a decade. Full Story

I interviewed Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones yesterday at the junket for The Theory Of Everything. As already mentioned, the film is SOOOOOOO good. And their performances are …well…everything. The key here is that the story is told from her perspective. So it’s not really a biopic but a film about partnership. Full Story

In the last six years—ever since the economy took a sh*t in the world’s bed—the markets at film festivals have drawn down. Deals still get made at a comparable rate to pre-economy-sucking-it-hard days, but where once distributors were willing to throw money around to make a statement, expenditures on acquisitions have gone down, and now it’s not uncommon for even well-regarded films to sell for “paltry” sums in the low six figures. Full Story

“It got pretty wet here”

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 9, 2014 13:57:43 September 9, 2014 13:57:43

A trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s new movie The Boy Next Door was released yesterday. It comes out in January, not exactly a month for quality pictures. But…I’m totally seeing this. And to all my friends out there, I know what you’re thinking and SHUT UP, this is not my life. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

My etalk assignments for TIFF this weekend: British duty. It wasn’t deliberate but somehow it just ended up that way. I interviewed Tom Hardy on the red carpet at the premiere of The Drop on Friday and again at the junket on Sunday.  Read Full Intro
