Sh-t. There was a lot of bad hair last night. A deserving win for Anna Gunn, no doubt. A deserving sweep for Breaking Bad, certainly. The bottom half of this dress annoys me though. I just wish it wouldn’t. Why couldn’t it have stayed the same? Imagine all that beaded pretty all the way down? And these extensions. Full Story

Kerry Washington: Worst Emmys Showgirl

It’s not arbitrary, of course. Kerry Washington didn’t just choose the orange because she liked it, or as an homage to Orange Is The New Black, or whatever. She chose it, I assume, as she often does, to counteract all the white and grey and beige that is her (gorgeous, cashmere-filled) lot on Scandal. Full Story

I get it that she was going for something severe. I enjoy severe on her. You know what though? At these events, for her, it’s almost always severe. In fact, I can’t even remember seeing her with her hair down, loose. Not in a long time. Is it because she’s differentiating from the character? Alicia is less severe with her look, sure. Full Story

In Defense Of Zooey’s Emmys Hair

I landed in New York this morning and it affected my Emmy experience in two ways. One, I got to watch all the American commercials which really do seem more …commercial, somehow…and two, I was SO HOT during. There’s humidity here like there hasn’t been all summer. So I realized, maybe in the moment as I watched Zooey Deschanel’s hairdo that, that it was likely not a style choice, per se, but a leaning into what was already happening. Full Story

January Jones: Emmys Worst Fringe

It’s stringy, it’s brassy…and I just, I just don’t know what else she would do with it. The way it’s twisted back on both sides like that, the only option was to leave the fringe down because otherwise, if she’d have pushed it back, it’s too much sister-wife-ing so…maybe it would have been better to just leave it all down and have it blunt bobbed across the chin? That’s the decision I would have made. Full Story

What’s the middle ground at an award show between not knowing anyone and having to see the same people over and over again? Well. The Golden Globes. And the Oscars. You still get the familiarity, but the films are fresh, the characters are different, it’s not just Modern Family over and over and over again. Full Story

“Allison! 3 continents, 9 countries, more than 25,000 kilometers, and only 3 more days until you finish the Amazing Race, MGB Edition! It’s only fitting that you have birthday celebrations in line with both the start and end of the program. Savor these last few days and then hurry home so we can celebrate with you! Vancouver has missed you just as much as you have missed it! Much love, Lil Sissy (and Barry!)” Attached by request - Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race at the Emmys last night. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

The Blue Ivy Carter has NO problem being up there in front of thousands of screaming people, non? In fact, that kid wants the microphone, like, now. As if a child of the Beysus would ever have stage fright. Not when her mother is the main event and everyone else the warmup. Not when she turned the MTV Video Music Awards into her own concert. You want to know why the rest of the show was so sh-t and poorly produced, with snakes biting dancers in rehearsal and missed cues and late switching and microphone checks at the wrong times? The entire budget was spent on the last 15 minutes.

That’s why Maroon 5 was the house band. God I loved that so much. Beyonce did that. So we’ll get to the Beyonce Video Music Awards and other gossip from the weekend and then we shift focus to the Emmy Awards tonight. Duana and I will be liveblogging starting at 7:30pm ET and there will be a full 30+ article recap tomorrow. Two all-nighters in a row – join us!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
