Floral mini dresses, Winona Ryder, and The Rachel haircut – the 90s were a cultural mixed bag that brought us some great things (Clueless, Reality Bites) and some terrible things (body glitter, 8-ball jackets). But nostalgia is a powerful emotion, hence Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy’s new relationship getting headlines (before everything went to hell over the weekend). Full Story

Robert Pattinson’s smile

Dior has released a new photo from Robert Pattinson’s first campaign for the Homme fragrance. I know nothing about photography so is this…composition? Like one third is all dark, and the other third (the subway tile) is in shade, leaving the centre third the focal point – his beautiful face and beguiling smile? Or is the star of this photo meant to be his hand? Pattinson is gazing adoringly at the face of a model off-camera, an image meant to suggest intimacy as her bare legs lounge suggestively on top of the tub, as he sits in it…fully clothed. Full Story

Man Shia at the intersection

The absolute weirdest video of noted weirdo Shia LaBeouf has been uploaded to YouTube and you must see it right now. It’s only 29 seconds long, and Shia’s only in it for less than half of that but, oh boy, does he leave an impression. What happens is a motorcyclist wearing a GoPro pulls up to a red light. Full Story

The Show Must Go On

I was despondent over the news the other day that our Butterfly Mimi had been injured because some motherf-cker let her walk around by herself in heels without holding her. Mimi dislocated her shoulder and cracked her rib. It was bleak, as she would say. BLEAK. But she managed to tweet a photo of herself in the hospital, with a sling, on a gurney. Full Story

Lady Gaga broke her hip this year and had to cancel her tour. She wisely took the opportunity to recede from the spotlight, having been a relentless force in entertainment for the better part of 4 years. It had gotten to the point where all the meat and eggs were just met with a shrug. After almost half a year then, Gaga has returned. Full Story

Deadline posted an article earlier this week about the upcoming award season and the possibility that it might actually be more diverse this year than it has been, maybe, ever. Fruitvale opens this weekend after coming out strong from Sundance. Then there’s The Butler, and Twelve Years A Slave, and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Full Story

Spike Lee’s Oldboy

One of the most crazily violent, and just plain crazy, movies I’ve seen is Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy, a classic of South Korean action cinema from 2003. It’s a twisted story of torture and revenge, loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo, with some of the most memorable action sequences you’ll see (the hammer!). Full Story
