You know, I know that red dresses are kind of frowned upon on this site from time to time. I know that the prevailing wisdom is that it’s impossible to do one well.  To this I say you know what? Anne Hathaway is considered the favourite to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar by most experts. But you know this is a tight season. The tightest it’s been in a long time. And, well, here comes  a formidable challenger... Sally Field was at the Palm Springs Film Festival this weekend to accept the Career Achievement Award and she gave the most memorable speech of the night in front of an audience that included many, MANY Academy members living in the area who would be very happy to vote for her. Full Story

Steel Magnolias was on this weekend. I decided to watch it before watching the new Lifetime version with Queen Latifah. It’s been years, a long, long time. Duana told me recently that Steel Magnolias still holds up. Of course she was right. It might even be better. It’s certainly funnier. Full Story

I wish all the girls could have been there last night at the Shirley MacLaine AFI event. Still, it was enough to make me want to watch it right now. Maybe tonight.
