Sasha Answers: Petty over wedding dates
Hey Sasha, I have been with my fiancé for a couple of years before we got engaged, which was back in the spring of 2011. We set the date almost immediately and it was no secret to anyone. We booked our venues, made a website, etc. almost immediately and had save the dates mailed out in late 2012.
Meanwhile, during the summer of 2012 two friends of mine got engaged. They've been together for about a decade and I'm very happy for them. This past fall I found out that they booked their wedding to take place one month before ours. I totally get that they are excited to get married, and some people may argue that because they've been together longer, they "trump" us, but it still doesn't sit well with me. Like I said, I'm as happy for them as anyone, but even still, I kind of feel like all of our mutual friends (and there are a lot of us) may feel "wedding'd out". It also makes it difficult for people coming in from away.
Sasha, am I being irrational for being a little ticked off? Thanks for your insight! C
Here’s the thing C, you can be ticked off, you can stomp your feet, you can even have yourself a little cry if you want, but the fact of the matter is it ain’t gonna change jack sh-t. Their wedding date is set and I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to suck it up.
I mean, just because you've got your special date doesn’t mean that no one is allowed to plan anything near it within some arbitrary 30-day period. Come on, I like you, but you have to know that sounds ridiculous.
We all know there are 4 seasons a year: fall, winter, spring and wedding. When summer rolls around it’s time to bring out your best threads and get your party face on. And trust me C, you don’t have worry about your guests - they will have fun at your wedding, they will bring you nice gifts, you will look beautiful and you’ll have a great night.
So please don’t waste another day stressing about this – it’s not only useless, it’s also a tad petty.
