Hi Hayley, I'm a cliché.  I'm getting married in about a year and I want to get in tip top shape. I'm already in decent/good shape.  I have a healthy BMI and I workout about 4 times a week.  I do yoga once a week and about 30 minutes of cardio with some pushups and abs the other 3 days. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Weight Loss Surgery

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 29, 2014 14:30:42 May 29, 2014 14:30:42

Hayley, I am stuck! 3 years ago I lost about 60 pounds with diet and exercise, which is great and I feel so much better. However, I still need to lose another 50 to reach my goal. I am 5'1" and around 185, with a heavy frame and family history leaning strongly towards diabetes. My problem is that I am out of options for what to further change or do to get to that goal. Full Article

Last week I introduced to you a woman named Tam.  A woman who was about to prove to herself, to her daughters and all other woman who read her story that it does not matter your shape, your age or your athletic ability, anything is possible. Full Article

Hi Hayley! I'm 25, 5'6 and ~145 lbs. I've lost about 60 lbs in 4 years, and my goal weight has always been ~130 lbs. Now that it's summertime I'm gearing up to take my fitness more seriously. I'm lightly active, alternating between cardio and strength training and I'm starting to increase that. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Pre-pregnancy weight loss

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 16, 2014 16:17:42 May 16, 2014 16:17:42

Hayley, I am 33 and I gained a lot of weight in the last years. I decided to address this issue at the beginning of the year. I cut alcohol and started to eat well. I eat between 1300 to 1500 calories of healthy food per day. And I train at the gym: 5-6 times a week, generally a circuit with 45 minutes of cardio (elliptical, running or biking) and lifting weight. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Bending Impossible

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 15, 2014 15:38:01 May 15, 2014 15:38:01

She wanted her daughters to know that their dreams could come true and that there were no boundaries in life. Running a 5 day, 152 km race through the jungles, mangroves, mountains, trails and beaches of Costa Rica was a dream that she never believed she could accomplish. This is the story of how Tam, a 47 year old working mother of two who had never run farther than 10k before her daughters were born, began to bend impossible a little each day in hopes that one day it would break. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Gaining weight in a healthy way

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 7, 2014 15:21:43 May 7, 2014 15:21:43

Hey Hayley! I've got a question that I guess is a bit different than most of the people who write to you. I'm wondering if you can help me gain weight. Back story - I'm in my late twenties, 5'5", and have always been on the slim side. But because of some major life changes, and having to take a prescription medication long-term, and god knows why else, I've gotten a lot thinner. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Supplements

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 2, 2014 15:30:49 May 2, 2014 15:30:49

Hayley, I'm sure it's not possible... but... is Garcinia Cambogia legit? It's all over the twitter, and I spy a bottle on the desk of a colleague. Dr Oz says it works. What do you think? Thanks, G --- I am not one to write about supplements and diet pills but since this product is all over the media, and apparently your office too, I figured it was the perfect time to address it. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Rain clothes

Hayley Posted by Hayley at May 1, 2014 14:33:36 May 1, 2014 14:33:36

April showers bring May flowers, or at least that is what they tell us so we can make it through the rainy and dreary spring here on the West (or wet) Coast. Getting outside in the rain never used to bother me and I almost looked forward to a wet hike or run through the trails but maybe it is because I am getting older that the thought of getting wet is the last thing I want to experience. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Arthritis learn-to-run

Hayley Posted by Hayley at April 29, 2014 13:46:34 April 29, 2014 13:46:34

Hi Hayley, I've never been athletic in my life, but I'd like to start running.   I can walk all day and I try to get in at least half an hour each day, but I'd like to step up my game.  I have mild arthritis in my knees which has shown improvement since I started walking daily and lost weight, but it's not severe, so I don't think that should deter me. Full Article
