With the Oscars just around the corner, it is time to put your body through the paces to get it red carpet ready. My last post focused on how to get lean, toned legs and today we bring the focus above the waist to the upper body. The downside to working just upper body is that it is a lot tougher to keep the heart rate up, which means fewer calories burned. Full Article

With the Oscars just around the corner, you can bet your life’s savings that Oscar body prep is in high gear. Everyone who will be walking down the red carpet on February 28th will be looking their absolute best. Now we can’t all afford to have our trainers work us out daily while surviving off as few calories as possible, but we can use that red carpet to motivate us in a healthy way. Full Article

I’m turning 50 this year and have decided to celebrate by walking 50 miles in one day with a friend of mine who’s also just turned 50. After much debating about location, we’ve settled on the streets/parks of NYC for a variety of reasons (easy access to facilities/resources of all kinds, no need to schedule pick-ups or drop-offs, friends can easily meet up with us for legs of the journey, we both moved here 25 years ago, we love it, etc). Full Article

Dear Hayley, I love(d) being outside - rock climbing, skiing, hiking, paddling. That's what I did to escape, have fun and be with friends. But the last few years I have spent most of my time sick or injured or recovering. In 2012, I tore the vertebral artery in my neck in a freak ski accident (getting off the chairlift) and had a stroke. Full Article

We finished off 2015 with my top 10 Fitness Takeaways and I wanted to share with you my experience in implementing some of those key points into my life so far in 2016. Skate skiing (think skating on cross country skis) is something that I have always wanted to learn how to do but I have always been afraid to try because I can’t skate, or ski for that matter. Full Article

I was excited to get a Magic Bullet blender for Christmas. I'd like to use it to make some healthy smoothies or shakes. I'm not looking to do a cleanse or go on a liquid diet, but I thought this would be a good way to incorporate more veggies, especially spinach, into my diet. A lot of the recipes I've seen are fairly heavy on fruits, which I've read can just fill you up with sugar. Full Article

Hi Hayley,  My question for you is, how can I start to eat "cleanly" without getting so hungry that I lose my way? I have young children who are reasonable eaters and a husband who eats anything. I feel great when I eat well and want it to be the way we generally eat. Where on earth do I begin? Jo ___ You are not alone in your request to eat better for 2016 as it seems to be common question over the last couple of days. Full Article

My number one, and most important, Fitness Takeaway for 2015 is: Mental Health Mental health is just as, if not more, important than our physical health. I was very open a few months back about my own struggles and battles with mental health (click here for a refresher), and I was overwhelmed by how many of you took time to share your own personal battles with depression and anxiety. Full Article

The second to last Fitness Takeaway for 2015 is: Set Goals and Make a Plan Because you can’t have one without the other, and without either you will lack direction going forward. Spend these last few days of 2015 reflecting on your year, things you are proud of and things you wish you would have done better. Full Article

Number 3 on my list of the Top 10 Fitness Takeaways for 2015 is: Forget the Past and Look to the Future. We need to stop trying to be someone we used to be and instead grow into something we want to become.  If you are a new mom and your goal is to get your pre baby body back you need to appreciate the body you now have, a body that nurtured a single cell until it grew into a beautiful baby and a body that continues to care for and nurture what was once a part of you. Full Article

Number 4 on my Top 10 Fitness Takeaways for 2015 is: You will NEVER find time so you must MAKE time.  We all only have 24 hours in each day to accomplish what needs to be accomplished, and as good as our intentions can be to fit in a workout or prepare a healthy meal, healthy tasks are commonly pushed aside. Full Article
