I have long, thick hair and I have always battled with it when I am exercising.  Besides the fact that I have to wash and style it after a workout (which takes forever) I have always fought with how to tie it back when I am running.  I hate the feeling of my hair on my back, so a low pony tail is out of the question. Full Article

I never thought I would be one to use a fitness app on my phone to track my eating but in the fall of 2012 I was introduced to MyFitnessPal and in 10 weeks I dropped 15 pounds that had been gained over the summer.  Here is why I think a system like this works. The number one reason is this is not a diet. Full Article

Trust me when I say you are not alone in this fight to lose belly and hip fat. It is a billion dollar business and everywhere you turn someone is trying to sell you something that will solve all of your weight loss problems. Here is the truth –women are meant to have body fat, so unless you are willing to make a complete lifestyle change and cut out all sugar and grains and exercise like crazy you will always have fat on your stomach and thighs. Full Article

Hi Hayley, In the last 10 years I have put on 40lbs since University. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and all my doctors, nurse and dietician tell me is it's 3x as hard for me to lose the weight. Not helpful and very frustrating. I'm working on my diet but exercise is important too. I have signed up for a 10K race in May and I am running 3-4 times a week, however I would like to include some weight training to help with my weight loss, tone and benefit my running and overall health. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Your Workout Wardrobe

I would be the last person to call myself a fashionista but I do know how to dress for a workout.  Let’s face it – gyms are no longer a place to wear your frumpy white t-shirts and baggy shorts anymore.  They are turning into a place to be seen and look good and no matter what size you are or what your budget might be you can look hot while you are dripping with sweat. Full Article

Consistency, in my opinion, is the most important word to consider when attempting to make a life change (such as trying to lose weight).  I can not tell you how many times I have had people say to me that they have been trying to lose weight and months in they are not seeing any results. Here is the thing – if you are consistent in your attempt to make change then you will see results, no question. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Glutes for running

Hayley Posted by Hayley at March 7, 2013 14:32:15 March 7, 2013 14:32:15

It’s almost Spring -- my favourite time of year! This is when a lot of us are ramping up our running. Whether you are training for your first 5km or a marathon, this is when your running mileage will begin to increase. Up to this point in your training you probably have not noticed much in regards to knee, back and hip pain but as the distances you run increase so might your aches. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I don't know if you are the one to ask but here goes. I have this friend who is really self conscious about her weight. She is a bit bigger but not unhealthy in the least. What she has started is that whenever she feels guilty having eaten a lot she will make herself throw it up. She does this about twice a week or less. Full Article

While I was in Mexico I actually had the time to sit down and relax and in that process I picked up one of those fitness magazines that stare at you every time you are in a grocery store line up. On the cover it said “Get your dream body in just 2 weeks” and there was a picture of a well known trainer and her perfect, toned and sculpted body. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Spice up your plank

Hayley Posted by Hayley at February 22, 2013 17:51:06 February 22, 2013 17:51:06

Here are 4 of my favourite core exercises that will spice up a plank and can be done anywhere. Add these in at the end of your workout or intersperse each one throughout your strength training routine. Superman Plank This is a favourite of mine.  Start in a plank position then extend out one arm straight while making a fist and hold yourself still, ensuring that your hips are parallel to the ground. Full Article

Hi Hayley, My husband and I have been disagreeing about something lately. Our kids have been perma-sick since December and we keep catching what they have. My husband feels like he needs to push through his sickness and continue working out (he's worried about losing momentum), I on the other hand feel like exercising while sick will just make it worse (obviously it depends on the degree of sickness, in this case we both have colds, sore throats, little energy). Full Article
