In 2015 we finished the year off with a top 10 list of smutty fitness challenges but as 2016 was coming to an end I had a reader suggest to me that instead of finishing the year off with a top 10 list, I should begin 2017 with 10 days of fitness tips and challenges to help guide you in making 2017 the best year yet. Full Article

Hi Hayley. My exercise routine is calling for a HIIT routine after weights. I was wondering if you could give two or three quick routines to do after my workouts. I'm not a hundred percent on what to do. I usually warm up with rowing, ropes or kettle bell swings etc. --- Try doing your HIIT by incorporating it into your strength training routine, rather than doing it after. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Beyond sit-ups

Hayley Posted by Hayley at December 16, 2016 18:51:23 December 16, 2016 18:51:23

After my second child I realized I had diastasis recti. And then I realized that I'd had it after my first 5 years earlier - but just dismissed as Mom body. I've quit sit-ups as I've heard that they just make it worse, but my regime of toe-taps and wall sits is not giving me results. Any suggestions?  Thanks! --- Diastasis recti is the stretching and separation of the rectus abdominals (the six pack muscle). Full Article

The winter has hit us hard here on Canada’s west coast, which means running outside is out of the question. It’s not that we west coasters can’t handle the cold, but our city can’t seem to clear the snow (all 15cm of it) off the sidewalks before it freezes and turns into a giant skating rink. Full Article

If you didn’t know this about me already, I am IN LOVE with my Pilates practice. Although I will never look like a graceful dancer, the movements of Pilates have been so great for all of my sports and it keeps my body pretty pain free. I understand that Pilates is not only expensive but can be intimidating for us “less flexible” types. Full Article

It’s that time again. The holiday season. The time when we eat and drink WAY too much. The time where tumbleweeds blow through gyms. And every year, one month following today, we are either in a panic trying to undo all that we did over the last 30 days or we have decided that this is the year we finally get ourselves fit. Full Article

I was in the best shape of my life recently, and doing a mix of workouts: hiking, at the gym with a trainer, running, yoga, etc. Unfortunately I tore my ACL about a month ago, and the MRI says I also fractured a couple of bones I have an appointment with a specialist in a month, and will then have to wait to get surgery sometime thereafter. Full Article

Hi Hayley! I've been doing CrossFit for about three years and I love it, 3-4 times a week. The reason why I enjoy CrossFit is because the workouts are different every time. I used to run and every time I would run I would experience foot pain or knee pain, which I don't get with CrossFit.  My question is, how do I incorporate some sort of cardio in my life? I notice that CrossFit is starting to make my body look a certain way and make my clothes fit differently (broader shoulders, larger quads). Full Article
