Hayley Posted by Hayley at August 2, 2012 13:46:47 August 2, 2012 13:46:47

I am currently on my summer vacation, two weeks with my family in a place I like to call the best place on earth. It is my family’s summer cottage back east and I have been coming here since I was born.  This is where I let my hair down. I relax, I sit still, I read, I eat and I enjoy the marvellous sunshine. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Sweating

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 27, 2012 13:54:05 July 27, 2012 13:54:05

Hi! Just back from the gym, where I do my own intense spinning class because I only have 30 minutes and I go for it! Hills, sprints, hill sprints ... anyway ... I am a sweater, I mean I have always been one to sweat and often buckets. I notice especially on the stationary bike, likely because I'm not moving so there's no breeze, I really sweat, especially from the wrists, elbows, shoulders and I’m sure a lot of other places but they are clothed. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Running and Weight Gain

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 24, 2012 13:01:48 July 24, 2012 13:01:48

This may seem like something that someone who is training for a running event may not need to worry about but all too often beginner runners will gain weight while training for their first half marathon or other running distance.  You might be thinking that someone who is running 3 or 4 days a week plus cross training would find it hard to keep weight on but this is a common problem. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Losing weight with a toddler

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 20, 2012 13:31:46 July 20, 2012 13:31:46

Hi Hayley - My husband and I are parents to a 14 month-old. We both work long hours, but try to be home to spend time with our daughter before she goes to sleep at 7:30. We often eat after 8:00 and all we want to do is watch TV and go to bed. On the weekends we'll go for long walks with our toddler, but that doesn't shed the pounds. Full Article

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 17, 2012 13:59:55 July 17, 2012 13:59:55

Hi Hayley.  This weekend I completed my 5th Underwear Affair 10k race in Vancouver and for the first time ever I came in under an hour (under 57 minutes to be exact, 13 minutes faster than last year!).  I wasn’t actively trying to go faster than last year; somehow it just worked out that way. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Don’t be afraid of bikini season

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 11, 2012 13:59:11 July 11, 2012 13:59:11

While the rest of the world has been basking in the warmth of summer, those of us on the west coast are just now starting to feel the heat. (Lainey: seriously, in Vancouver, summer came this week. MID JULY.) Along with this sunshine comes beaches, barbeques, patios, pools and uh oh…the dreaded bathing suit season. Full Article

Hayley Posted by Hayley at July 6, 2012 13:23:37 July 6, 2012 13:23:37

I want to talk about those workouts that we have that, well, the ones that suck.  You know, the ones that you dread going to from the minute you wake up, the ones that you try and find every excuse to get out of, the ones that make you feel like you have not exercised in months, the ones that as soon as you start you know you should have listened to your gut and not even shown up too. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I recently found out I am pregnant (yay).  I like to exercise including running and weight lifting.  I know my workouts need to change but I’m not sure exactly how.  I was hoping you could share some exercises that were safe for me and my baby. Thanks! Congratulations on your pregnancy!  You are right  that your workouts do need to change but for the most part you can continue to do what you have been doing up to a certain point. Full Article

Hi Hayley, This winter I really got into running, and am now training to run my first half marathon in October! I’ve been running three times a week steadily over the winter and spring, and am now able to run up to 14k on my long runs. Now that the weather is getting hot and humid, I’ve begun to notice that my timing and energy is being affected. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Home Gym

Hayley Posted by Hayley at June 22, 2012 13:50:59 June 22, 2012 13:50:59

Hi Hayley, I was hoping you could tell me what you think is the essential gear for fitness training at home. I don't really like the gym, but I would like to be able to do some fun, challenging strengthening exercises (I already run and do some other activities like hiking). What are your recommendations? Excluding stuff like treadmills - I'm on a bit of a budget. Full Article
