I have to begin by confessing that I have not read The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And I can safely say that I regret letting it slip through the cracks. Because if a movie this good came from a book, I can only imagine how transformative that book must be.  As a movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower will go down as one of the great coming of age classics. Full Story

I can’t wait to hear people’s reactions to this movie. Director Walter Salles was faced with a daunting task, one that many might argue was virtually impossible to successfully accomplish: turn Jack Kerouac’s barely fictionalized autobiography, On The Road, often referred to as one of the most important novels of the century, into a film that wouldn’t crumble under the weight of such tremendously high expectations. Full Story

The Taylor-Johnsons are in Toronto. I’m in Toronto. OMG. Here they are arriving yesterday with daughters Wylda Rae and Romy Hero for the TIFF premiere of Anna Karenina. They are the opposite of the Paltrow-Martins: we do everything together. I want to see them at a party together. But now that I see that their babies are with them, I wonder if that’s not likely. Full Story

Ready? It’s TIFF time! This is how TIFF usually goes: junket, screening, red carpet, party, after-party, after-after-party, and blogging the whole time. But this year, there’s more… As in tickets for you to see the movies! Visa is a proud sponsor of TIFF and they approached me to partner with them for an insider’s view of the Festival. Full Story

Kristen Stewart flew to Toronto from LA yesterday in advance of tonight’s 9pm TIFF screening of On The Road. It’s her first official public appearance since, you know. Looper is the big opening gala at Roy Thomson Hall at 8pm. I wonder though if there will actually be more press at the Ryerson and/or a mad scramble from RTH to the Ryerson to get to Stewart’s carpet. Full Story

It’s time once again for the Toronto International Film Festival, the official kick-off of award season. TIFF feels really huge this year. It’s one of the world’s premiere film festivals in general, but this year it seems like the line-up is extra special loaded, like they might have caught the “we have to wrangle all the potential Oscar movies” bug from the folks over at Cannes, like TIFF wants to make a move against Cannes and be THE film festival. Full Story

Crazy Notebook fans will hope for a Rachel and Ryan reconciliation as both have films there. Twi-Hards might hope that Kristen Stewart will show up with Robert Pattinson by her side, forgiven. But, but, but... Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder are both expected ... It’s been 20 years. Like, almost exactly. Full Story

Last year we had Brange and George. This year Johnny Depp and Will Smith. That’s a win when you can secure any two of the big 5 and both Depp and Smith were on the TIFF expected guest list released this morning. A few quick notes which, by no means, covers everything, but we’ll add to it later as we approach the festival: -Paul Thomas Anderson is on the list for The Master and, after the reaction from last week’s Chicago screening - click here Full Story
