I don’t know how to fill in the rest of that title. Because I don’t want to be yelled at. At the same time, I feel like you’re probably not going to be able to avoid it today so if you’re yelling at me, you’re probably yelling at everyone. About the spoiler… Is it really a spoiler? Is it still a spoiler? Grey’s Anatomy. Full Story
I remember talking with a friend in comedy a few months ago, and we were talking about how Full House comes up all of the time. Like, no matter how burly or brash the comedians you’re working with, no matter how blue the humour, a Full House reference lands with everyone. We weren’t sure why exactly, but it did kind of seem to flip the script of ‘family’ shows at the time, in the sense that any of the myriad adult-kid pairings were not exactly going to be run of the mill. Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast rounded out its cast this week, getting ready to shoot later this year. Emma Watson is already on board as Belle, and Dan Stevens and Luke Evans join her as the Beast and Gaston, respectively. The cast is actually really interesting—Ian McKellan (Cogsworth), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Full Story

Lee Daniels was in New York last night as one of the TIME 100 honourees. Empire has been the biggest new show of the year, and it’s more than just ratings. It’s representation. On so many levels. Empire started airing during award season; I couldn’t get to it until after the Oscars, and then I had a book debate to study for and other deadlines so I didn’t start until end of March. Full Story
As you know, we have a lot of love for Shonda Rhimes here. Normally it’s Duana who gets to hog on loving Shonda. But she’s busy today. So I’m stealing this one from her and it’s big. Last night Shonda was named to the National Association of Broadcasting Hall Of Fame. And it’s not like I have to explain why but I will anyway: what would ABC be with Shondaland? There would be no TGIT. Full Story
The MTV Movie Awards are on Sunday.
Um. Game Of Thrones premieres on Sunday on both HBO and HBO Canada. FINALLY.
FINALLY! You wait 10 months to watch for only 10 weeks.
So this isn’t a conversation. Watch GOT and Mad Men first. And then hit the internet or Twitter the next morning to catch up on the Movie Awards. That’s the game plan. Because there is nothing that will happen at MTV that you can’t watch on PVR later. You don’t have to see Shailene Woodley accept her Trailblazer Award live. But you DO want to see those dragons as soon as possible.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Yesterday was a good day for TV trailers – first there was Orange is the New Black, then True Detective season 2 with Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams looking hot (will they just hook up already). There was also a trailer for Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s new show, Grace and Frankie. Full Story
I felt about the first season of True Detective the way I feel about Iggy Azalea: didn’t care. In fact, the only time I cared was when Cary Fukunaga won the Emmy. Duana and I have been yelled at a lot about this. And we get it. You loved the show. But for us, there was no draw. Sorry. Can we make up now though? Because I am interested in Season 2. Full Story

This is not a joke. The movie, expected to air this summer, is about a couple who take care of a pregnant woman in the hopes of adopting her baby only to have it all go horribly awry. It’s described as a “wink” at the genre, the genre being Lifetime movies, which…yeah that is a genre by this point. Full Story

In February Jon Stewart announced he will be retiring from The Daily Show later this year, and now it’s become official that his replacement will be South African comedian Trevor Noah. There’s still no date for Stewart’s retirement beyond “later this year”, but when he does go, Noah will take over his chair. Full Story

I can’t say it enough, how proud I am of my friend Dan Levy who created Schitt’s Creek. And wrote it. And stars. And is the showrunner. PS. Dan is only 31. I hate him! While I obsessively watch him, week after week, because I need everything he wears in every f-cking episode. Next time you hear someone say “black is boring”? Introduce them to the way Dan styles a character. Full Story
