An interesting bit of news came out yesterday that back in October film industry insiders held a two-day think tank to brainstorm ways to promote the interests of women in the industry. You’ve heard me rattle on all year about these televised musicals. The Wiz airs Thursday night on NBC, and it is going to be far better than the live musicals of the previous years, which is good for musical lovers but bad for live-tweeters. This article from the Hollywood Reporter Full Story

Yesterday The Hollywood Reporter released their studio executive roundtable, an hour-long conversation between the heads of five out of six of the Big Six studios, plus Lionsgate’s Rob Friedman. (Why is Warner Brothers not here?) Of the six execs, two are women—Universal’s Donna Langley, and Fox’s Stacey Snider. Full Story

“Do you think everyone will be disappointed that I’m happy?” This is what Adele asks Brian Hiatt who wrote the cover article for her new Rolling Stone profile. It’s moments like these that make this interview so special. Because, as we all know now, celebrity interviews, most of the time, are a fake dance agreed upon by all parties – the star, the media, the audience. Full Story

I mentioned in the previous post about Adele that I leave for holiday the day after 25 comes out which means I’m listening to it nonstop when I’m away. Last year, the soundtrack of my holiday was Taylor Swift’s 1989. It came out pretty much right when we left. And I love it. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Taylor Swift’s best album to date, the one she wants a Grammy for. Full Story

Ava DuVernay was honored this year as part of Elle’s annual Women In Hollywood awards, and she gave an AMAZING speech at their awards dinner. The whole thing is well worth a read, but there are a couple highlights that tie into some of the particular issues surrounding diversity in Hollywood that we’ve talked about recently. Full Story

I’ve already written about Jeremy Renner today. About how he’s recording an album – click here for a refresher. A lot of people are talking about Jeremy this week because of how he responded to questions about the gender pay gap and Jennifer Lawrence’s essay. Full Story

Jennifer Lawrence gets tough in Joy

In the past, Jennifer Lawrence has done something that bugs me—she downplays her ambition. By her early twenties, she bagged two franchises and multiple Oscar nominations and became one of the most famous and successful young actresses in the world. None of that happens by accident.
