Dear Gossips,

We have NY withdrawal. And what’s worse – going from NY after the funnest 6 days ever, coming straight to my mother’s house for the rest of the holiday where she took one look at our jeans, judged our hygiene to be not up to her standards, and proceeded to cover her couches with towels. These are people who wash their dishes in chlorine 3 times a day. Now you know why I have neurotic shower issues. Also the Christmas tree keeps singing. Didn’t you know? Chinese Christmas trees play music. Like a music box. Only Christmas carols, Helly Kitty styles. Please let there be some Mimi today. Or a Ryan Gosling sighting. Because I’ve already overused my happy place.

Avatar
numbers were adjusted yesterday. Despite the storm, its opening haul was $77 million, setting records for 3D grosses and earnings for a non-sequel, non franchise release with overseas cash continuing to boost totals over $270 million. In other words, Avatar is a winner. Boosted by strong word of mouth and overwhelmingly positive reviews (94% from top critics) it is expected to keep growing deep into the Christmas weekend. And everyone I know who’s seen it keeps gushing about it. Fine. But how about Up In The Air?

Because Up In The Air finally opens wide on Friday. My favourite movie of the year, an awards season contender, George Clooney’s best, and a story for these times. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Tuesday – am online all day, check back often.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
