Dear Gossips,
Forgive the self-pimp but please click here - it’s my first byline in the Globe & Mail and the Saturday edition too. Jumpy claps! The article is a smutty reflection on Twilight in Vancouver so how appropriate then that while I was celebrating this exciting personal accomplishment on the weekend, a Twi-Hard decided to “chink”-bomb me on Twitter. That tweet can be accessed here. Divine timing, non? The Globe & Mail piece includes many other similar examples of the crazy and the racially sensitive, including a puppy-naming incident and conspiracy theories too. Click here to read.
$140 million – New Moon’s astounding opening weekend take now ranks #3 for all time premieres, even more impressive considering it’s November and not summer when records usually fall at the box office. But they went over and over and over again, those Twi-Hards. I heard from several who saw it 3, 4, 5, even 6 times in 3 days. One woman managed to fit in the midnight screening on Thursday, 3 shows on Friday, 4 on Saturday, and only twice on Sunday (boo!) for a total of 10 by Sunday night. She plans on seeing it at least two more times during the week and definitely on Thanksgiving.
So piss poor reviews, critical snickering, cheap ass CGI, and several budget weaves, none of that matters. Because Twilight fans have proved to Summit that they don’t have to make a good movie. They just have to make ANY movie, so long as it’s about Bella and Edward. From a business perspective then, if I were Summit, I wouldn’t bother spending much money on production either.
Eclipse is only 7 months away. And it opens in June, prime blockbuster season. Look the f-ck out.
Why the f-ck was Jermaine Jackson chosen to accept on behalf of MJ at the American Music Awards? And who’s been bent over all night taking the wrath of Carrie Underwood? Country Bitch keeps losing to Taylor Swift. She’s feeling it. Trust.
It’s Monday – am online all day, check back often, scroll down for late posts from Friday.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
