Lainey Interviews Articles
January 2007 at Sundance. I interviewed James Franco for eTalk as he was at the festival to promote An American Crime. He looked clammy and tired, like cold cuts gone bad in your refrigerator, and stank of a pack of cigarettes smoked in 10 minutes. Full Story
They all have a lot to learn from Dustin Hoffman. I visited Michael Landsberg on Off The Record last week and we were talking about The Love Guru and Mike Myers who had been in town for the junket and Michael told me that he was offered a spot on the schedule for 3 minutes. Three minutes. Michael was like… F&ck that. Full Story
Katy Perry’s I Kissed a Girl is currently #1 both on iTunes and Billboard Canada and second to only Coldplay on the Billboard Hot 100. Not bad, right? But while the easy assumption is that at 23, Katy’s success came quickly, in reality she’s now with her fourth record label, having been bounced around and rejected for years by the business. Sorry it’s taken so long. Haven’t had a couple of hours straight uninterrupted to sit down and pound it out. Found out about the interview last Wednesday but didn’t want to jinx. Kept expecting something to go wrong – they’d cancel last minute, I’d break my other arm, my producer would change her mind and decide on a different story focus. Full Story
Can’t believe she gave birth 5 weeks ago. Crazy talk. She was wearing a satin grey jumper with Balenciaga heels. Pink lips, little foundation, the most stunning creature you’ve ever seen. I told her I couldn’t believe she just had a baby 5 weeks ago. Then she grabbed her breasts and said “well these weren’t here before!” and threw back her head and laughed like the Queen. Full Story
So I was discharged on Monday morning, we dashed to a random salon to get my hair shampooed because it was rank and stank from sickness, then over to the Carlton for the Indiana Jones junket. Unfortunately Shia had already left as he was on a tight sched but the publicists accommodated my pathetic arm and shuttled me through for Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett. Full Story
Some things you have to see to believe. Lara and I lost our sh*t last year over Bee Schaeffer and Anna Wintour only to get completely undressed by the divine Ms W. This year it was a different story. But first… Bee was wearing this over-the-top Nina Ricci. She had wanted it to be green a la Poison Ivy but Olivier Theyskens was feeling more purple. Full Story
Had no idea it would be like what it was. All they said was that Motley Crue was making an announcement – the inaugural Crue Fest this summer and a new album – and we were invited to the press conference and interviews with the band afterwards. Full Story
I wrote about the Stephenie Meyers series last year, click here for a refresher. Have since recommended to many of my friends with the following warning: the writing is… grating. You might hate yourself while reading it. Full Story
Still not enough to make me quiver but at least now I “get” it. Why some of you have him listed at #1 on your Freebie Five. I can understand, I can understand in my head, but not in my loins. Because even though his proclivities are certainly suspect, absolutely “the Bube” had a certain charm. Full Story
The best party was a party for the randoms. Aritzia on Bloor Street Monday night – we had the best time. Jena Malone showed up, so did Gus Van Sant (???). Also the dude from Entourage who plays Harvey Weingard, based on Harvey Weinstein. So I was a little drunk when I asked him to swear and spit. Full Story
It’s one of the few downsides of the job and while the snark is occasionally balanced by super love and adoration, when your fantasies about someone turn out to be just that – just fantasies – it absolutely crushes you. Such is the case with Joaquin Phoenix. I am sad. I loved him after Walk the Line. Full Story
