How you doing, Blinks? It’s a big day.
Lady Gaga’s new album, Chromatica, drops tomorrow. “Rain On Me”, her first collaboration with Ariana Grande, was released last week. Today we got “Sour Candy”, the song with BLACKPINK. This is a BOP. Gaga promised that Chromatica would be a dance celebration – and “Sour Candy” is a song to get down to. It’s a club jam, it’s a car jam, it’s a beach jam, it’s a kitchen jam.
And you know what makes it even better?
Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé are singing and rapping in both English and Korean. Just because they’re featuring on a Gaga song doesn’t mean they can’t bring their own identity and compromise their brand – and they shouldn’t have to. That’s the spirit of collaboration: everyone brings something to the table.
Now think about what all five of these women will be bringing in the video. I can’t f-cking wait to see this video. Fans have theorised that a video is coming on June 2, next Tuesday. Jisoo posted this on Instagram earlier this week:
And they were all on IG and she made a point again of showing off her t-shirt:

If there is a video, and they’re all in it together, like in the same space, obviously it would have had to have been shot before lockdown. But they can do a video, no problem, while physically distancing too. And the combination of the Gaga aesthetic with the BLACKPINK aesthetic, the visual potential here is…
It might be too much. I might not be ready. BLACKPINK videos are always an event. And we already know that they rule YouTube. Prepare yourselves. Because this is just the beginning of BLACKPINK summer. It was previously announced that they’re coming with a new song in June to kick off their comeback, another track is expected in July/August, before their first full length album arrives in September.
In the meantime, here’s “Sour Candy” – two versions, the official VEVO and also the colour-coded lyric video if you want to follow along. It’s always amazing to me how quickly they get this sh-t together.
