As revealed exclusively on eTalk last week, Degrassi star Adamo Ruggiero is gay and has decided to come out. Adamo tells his story to Nelson Branco in the new issue of Fab, explaining how he came to terms with his sexuality, what he struggled with, and the peace he found afterwards.

He also discussed his growth on Degrassi – his character came out before he did, and the responsibility of being a role model for gay rights and understanding was at times an honour but also at times a burden. Adamo aspires carry this gift gracefully… and being Canadian and living in Canada has certainly allowed Adamo the opportunity to grow into his choices without the kind of challenge and scrutiny his counterparts may have elsewhere.

Funny thing is, it’s not as though Degrassi doesn’t have a more than robust viewership. Watched by millions of people in over 150 different countries (The New York Times has called it the “best teen show on tv” while Time Magazine proudly proclaimed that “we love Degrassi!”), for some reason, here at home, it doesn’t get enough respect. But when The Hills comes to town, people lose their sh*t.

Maybe now the gays will lose their sh*t? Check out Adamo’s hot spread in Fab. Sigh. All the good ones are gay. With one Tom Cruise exception.
