Front row at Vera Wang today – Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley, faces full of judgment. On normal people, these expressions could most certainly be interpreted as negative reviews. Given that these two only smile once a year, however, in this case it’s much more difficult to say.

I will always have nightmares about Andre Leon Talley at the Oscars last February. Remember he hosted the official red carpet fashion hour? We saw him sprawled all over a director’s chair during rehearsals wearing… BASKETBALL SHORTS and KNEE HIGH SOCKS and SNEAKERS!!! Imagine it – he’s like 10 ft tall, and heavy, and loud, lumbering around giving people style pointers dressed like a vagrant jonesing for a bump.

Seriously…because of him we could barely eat lunch. Which is why Jennifer Hudson picked the wrong outfit to win an Oscar.
Thankfully my memories of Anna are much fonder. Last year at the Costume Institute Gala, my friend Lara and I had the great honour of getting belittled by Anna’s eyes. I don’t think I ever truly lived until then. To see her face now, judging away… it totally makes my life.
