The Met Gala is not the prom. But you know, without fail, some people come to this thing thinking it’s like their own wedding. This explains why Jennifer Hudson chose Vera Wang. That’s a wedding dress, it’s a prom dress, it’s certainly not a high fashion dress, but then again, Andre Leon Talley once styled her for the Oscars like an asshole so maybe she’s a little gun shy in the sartorial game.
As for Ashley Greene – well, think of what Taylor Swift ordinarily might wear on a carpet (Swifty did great last night, more on this later!) or Shania Twain or Carrie Underwood. Think of the kinds of options that might be presented to them and then look at Ashley Greene. Exactly.
At the Met Gala?
Here’s how a dress like this happens. It’s Donna Karan, by the way. And Ashley Greene – or her mickey mouse manager/agent – would have probably started calling off a list of design houses and gotten laughed off the phone. Donna Karan may have taken pity, but put her on hold. Why? Because it’s only Ashley Greene. And if I’m Donna Karan, I’m saving my good sh-t for girls of way higher standing than Ashley Greene.
Which is how Ashley Greene probably got something from like the back drawer, you know? A dress that no one else wanted, and certainly not anything Donna Karan would have preferred to highlight but you pick and choose your moments, and if she gets a line or two out of this one, that’s the least of her best, so be it, at least it’s something.
