Carpets & Candids: Shailene’s silver sequined romper

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 5, 2018 15:47:55 November 5, 2018 15:47:55

I don’t know if it’s actually a romper or if it’s two pieces but it’s intended to look like it’s a romper, I think, so we’re calling it a romper and not fighting about that.  What we might be fighting about is whether or not this look works. I don’t think it doesn’t work – I really do like the big puffy sleeves – but I think it would work better if not for the V-neck and the cut out at the waist. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Constance’s London bangs

I don’t remember seeing Constance Wu with bangs during the Crazy Rich Asians North American press tour. Here she is with long bangs last night in London at the CRA premiere. Not my favourite look. They’re so stringy. And, maybe this is my bias about bangs, but they’re covering so much of her pretty face. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Dakota’s updo

Lainey Posted by Lainey at February 10, 2017 17:15:52 February 10, 2017 17:15:52

The dress is fine. I don’t want to talk about the dress. I want to talk about the hair. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how it happened. Not, like, the mechanics of it, but how anyone could decide that THIS would be the hairstyle to show on a red carpet. Why not just a clean topknot? Why the tendrils? Why the swirl that folds into the bun? Please explain this to me, if you can. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Brie’s bad hair

Lainey Posted by Lainey at October 31, 2016 14:00:24 October 31, 2016 14:00:24

I f-cking hate the seafoam. It’s a terrible colour. Like, at this point, it’s become offensive to me that people show up in places thinking seafoam belongs on a red carpet. But what’s worse here than the seafoam is Brie Larson’s hair. Few people can pull off this hair. Alexa Chung? Sure. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Mandy’s 80s hair

I don’t know about this hair. Mostly it’s the decision to match this hair with this dress. Were it a different outfit, a funkier outfit, I’d be down. But this dress… a black, velvet dress – a good dress – isn’t the dress for this hair.  Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Salma’s Cannes prom

If it was 1996, I would understand. What is the excuse for this in 2016? On Salma Hayek, who has access to almost every major design house? The straps AND the belt are glittered. There’s a bellybutton flower. And a tendril coming down her face. The tiered skirt is the LEAST offensive thing about this dress – what does that tell you!? Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Rachel’s White House choker

Like I said, I’m not a believer in the choker comeback. I mean on Gigi Hadid, maybe. But how many Gigis are there in the world? I don’t like the choker on Rachel McAdams. But I’m also not sure she’s giving it her best shot. Because while the dress is fine, the hair is ruining everything. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Emma’s White House pants

Brilliant way to modernise what could be an old-fashioned print. And every detail about this outfit is perfect, from the chest fan to the slit through the middle to the exact length and fit of those pants. My only, only complaint is the hair. At this length, I’m not a fan of the half back. Either leave it down, severely bobbed or tousled, or yank it all the way back and flat on the top. Full Article
