Continuing our awards season “Perfect Pairings” of all time. If you missed the first two, click here to read about Denzel and Halle’s history making wins in 2002 and here for Matt and Ben’s Good Will Hunting win. This time it’s Barbra Streisand and Kathryn Bigelow.

In 2010, Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Director for The Hurt Locker. Before that, only 3 women had ever been nominated for Best Director before. What made Kathryn’s storyline even more interesting that year was the fact that she was nominated alongside James Cameron, her ex-husband. Avatar was being called the biggest movie of all time. Not a lot of people saw The Hurt Locker. It was a total David and Goliath situation.

Fittingly, it was Barbra Streisand who was called to present the award that night. As you know, Barbra herself could have been nominated for Best Director for both Yentl and The Prince Of Tides. It was a beautiful moment to see her up there. And those words, “The time has come”, you sensed that she’d had them ready, and was hoping – for both Kathryn and Lee Daniels.

Let’s hope we see something like this happen again soon:

Just days left until big night.  Are you hosting? Or maybe someone else is and you’re bringing snacks. Cracker Barrel Special Reserve cheeses pair perfectly with all kinds of platter combinations. Last time I talked about their amazing Havarti. The time before that it was the One Year Cheddar.  We finish with Swiss.

Cracker Barrel Special Reserve Swiss is sweet and nutty and serves nicely with fresh fruit and cured meats.  Try it with chilled grapes alongside strips of Prosciutto or Pancetta, and a glass of light wine.
