Best Director is a major award. It comes near the end. And we all know how it works by now. Normally they ask the legends, the big time big name big deal stars to present.

Ben Affleck.

Has two Oscars: for writing and for producing Argo. NOT for directing Argo though. That was his snub year. And yet they still asked him to open the envelope for that category. Either it’s a sign of respect or the Academy is making him their bitch.

Not that Argo wasn’t a major victory for him. Not that he didn’t ride that as high and as far as it took him. But on some level, you know Ben Affleck wants one that he doesn’t have to share – not with Matt Damon and not with George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

Some day.

The Academy knows that too, non?
