Blake Lively is beginning promotion for Savages. This, allegedly, is the film that will really prove that she belongs in the same conversation as Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and the others.

Apparently Blake’s the new face of a fragrance, yet to be named, waiting for the right moment to announce. She just shot the commercial and it was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. You know, the director of Bronson and Drive. And how did that happen?

It’s a super fawny piece - Blake isn’t exactly pushed here, nor is the writer tasked with anything but a story that blows smoke up her ass, sure. But Oliver Stone participates and is complimentary (as complimentary as he can be), and so does Benicio del Toro, and even Leighton Meester agreed to be quoted. It’s a neutral comment, and you wonder what Meester offered up that didn’t make it to print, but she’s not exactly a novice here either. She knew the game she was playing. The game that day happened to be Let’s Make Blake Look Good. And Leighton Meester Got. On. Board.
How did she DO that?
Well, she does it with a lot more savvy than, say, someone like Rooney Mara. There’s a way to acknowledge that the work you do at the beginning, while perhaps not the most challenging, is an opportunity for more opportunity. Most importantly, there’s a way to not discount the importance of that work and to be grateful for it. Here’s how by Blake Lively:
“It’ll be bittersweet when (Gossip Girl’s) over because it gave me all of this,” she says, scanning the second floor of the mansion where we’re huddled next to each other on a windowsill. “I think the best way to describe it is like someone who really enjoyed high school, and is like, I’m a senior and I can’t wait for the next thing! Gossip Girl was so great, but what’s the next challenge in life? Because, you know, six years is a long time. And as an actor who plays a caricature of myself on the show, I don’t think I’d say, Watch Gossip Girl for my best quality of work. But I am very lucky to have had that experience.”

I know you don’t want to admit it. I hate admitting it too. Sarah from Cinesnark (hi Sarah!!!) especially hates admitting it. But the mumbling blonde with long legs and great tits and not much else totally played us all.
