Her body looked TIGHT. She looked amazing. The song…
Meh.
And the video?
Well it was slick. And people are losing their sh*t. And I’m as stoked as anyone else about her comeback because, yes, she’s clearly on her way...
But…
It’s hard to separate before and after. We’ve been watching her for a decade. And even though she looks better than she has in years, it’s not easy to forget what she was. Especially in video, where so much of her career was defined.
Like Slave 4 U.
Britney’s sickest video.
Every note, every angle, every beat – she killed that sh*t every time.
So now we’re hearing about the rehearsals, and the hard work, and the refocus, and the commitment. And you hate to compare…but that’s what you do. You watch Womaniser and you expect. You expect the same...
But the resulting Britney is a little blurry around the edges. The moves weren’t as crisp or precise or even all that exciting. Like in figure skating when they judge: a toe that isn’t quite pointed all the way or an arm not fully extended.
What was most exciting was Chicken Fried naked in the sauna. But what gets us hype is the dance…non?
It’s not fair, I know. But that’s the way it’s been set up. And is it acceptable to settle for “good enough” or is it better to wait for total excellence?
Clearly, from the way they’re rushing her, mediocrity makes quick money.
