From Britney to Miley and back again…
Britney Spears called into a radio show yesterday to talk about Work Bitch. At one point, the conversation became about how “sexy” the video is – “sexy” highlighted because that it’s up for interpretation.
Anyway, apparently Britney is uncomfortable with it. And is sort of apologising and rationalising:
"Oh my god, we showed way more skin and did way more stuff for the video than what is actually there. Like, I cut out half the video because I am a mother and because, you know, I have children, and it’s just hard to play sexy mom while you’re being a pop star as well. I just have to be true to myself and you know, feel it out when I do stuff.”
Which was the radio host’s cue to ask her, "Are they pushing you further than you wanna go and then you sit in the editing room and say, 'No that has to go' and that's pretty much how that's all lined up?"
Britney kind of chuckles awkwardly and then answers: Yes.
And now everyone’s freaking out that in asking her to be suggestive and “sexy” etc, her people are taking advantage of her.
Um. Just the suggestive and sexy part?
What about the WORK BITCH part?
What about the part where she’s not legally in charge of her own life and they’re still putting her on the hustle?
The sexiness – as I noted in the previous Miley Cyrus article – is not the only concerning aspect of Britney’s situation. The most concerning aspect of Britney’s situation is that she is over 30 years old, a mother of two, and has a conservator. Someone who decides what she works on, where she performs, WHO SHE DATES.
And only NOW people are wringing their hands? Over a video? That’s the least of our worries, isn’t it?
So if were up to Britney – if anything can be up to Britney anymore – how would it be different?
"A lot of sex goes into what I do. But sometimes I would like to bring it back to the old days when there was like one outfit through the whole video, and you’re dancing the whole video, and there’s like not that much sex stuff going on. It’s about the dance and it’s about being old school, it’s like keeping it real and just making it about the dance. I’d love to do a video like that.”
Dance!?
DANCE???????????????
Um, yeah, Britney. Me too.
