Before The Great Gatsby’s Daisy, Lisbeth Salander was the most coveted role for women in Hollywood. Carey Mulligan lost out on that part despite being considered an early frontrunner. She was a late entry to the Daisy derby, coming into the mix only after several other names had been widely circulated, including Blake Lively. And last night it was confirmed that Carey is indeed The One. Luhrmann told Deadline that he phoned her when she was on the carpet at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards and she got all weepy in front of Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour. Then, in my imagination, Karl tells her to call up Shia LaBeouf and the three of them ask him how he likes them apples.

As you can see, photo assumption, Carey seemed extra cheerful last night as she posed. Consider this: when Carey and Shia were together, she lost out on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, she started losing her buzz, and Never Let Me Go received sh-tty reviews and an even sh-ttier box office. She breaks up with Shia, everybody wants to know about her new boyfriend, and she confirms a role that everyone else wants.

Was Shia a Dark Cloud? This is what my mother would say.

Luhrmann also released a test shot from Carey’s audition along with his announcement that Carey is his Daisy. She looks great. He however is a f-cking drama queen.

"There are a few elements that I feel need to be resolved before I would categorically state that this is my next film. Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan, I was privileged to explore the character with some of the world's most talented actresses, each one bringing their own particular interpretation, all of which were legitimate and exciting. However, specific to this particular production of The Great Gatsby, I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her: "Hello, Daisy Buchanan."

Translation: she got the part, but only IF there is a part. I still haven’t decided.

Give the man a giant Sit DOWN.
