Celine Dion, the Queen Of All Feelings, will be touring Europe this summer. So she’s starting to do some advance press. If you’ve been following Celine Dion’s career, you know that there’s no half-assing with Celine. She doesn’t half-ass her heart-thumps, her leg lunges, she never half-asses on the style (even when it’s a backwards tuxedo, which was before its time, I tell you it was before its time!), and she especially would never half-ass on an interview, not if she’s talking about her love and all her feelings about loving the love. This new interview with The Sun though … My.God.The.Feelings. The expression of the feelings!
When Celine lost her husband, I texted Duana: Celine will never love again.
Just today, as we were going back and forth about this interview, Duana wondered if Celine still wears a lace mourning veil to bed. It’s a fair question.
Celine is the living embodiment of an eternal flame. You know like the eternal flame at JFK’s gravesite? That’s Celine Dion, in human form. An eternal flame represents forever. But also? It’s meant to be seen. There’s no point to an eternal flame if it isn’t being watched. No one understands this more than Celine. She must burn, continuously, so that we understand how powerful it was the love she and Rene shared. So she burns, through her gestures, with her voice, and with her words:
“Rene has prepared me for all my life since I’m 12. I have never met another man in my life, never kissed another man in my life. I miss him a lot. I miss him a lot — for my partner, for the man I was embracing, kissing, making love with. My worries, my dreams . . . ”
And here’s what she said when asked if there could ever be another man:
But when I ask if her heart will go on one day, by finding a new love, she shakes her head forcefully then says: “Now it is definitely too soon for me. I am definitely in love with him (Rene), married to him.
“He’s the love of my life. It’s very difficult for me to see myself with another person. The love that I have for him, I live it every day. And as a woman, we do have emotions and feelings that come and go. And it’s always with him.”
I can hear her saying these things. I can feel the heat from Celine, the eternal flame, warming the words to give them extra power when they come out of her mouth, so that it’s like I was in the room too when this interview was happening. When you listen to Celine talk about love, it feels like you’ve never actually loved. I mean, I think I love my husband? But compared to Celine, I’m not sure I’ll ever love him as much as Celine loves Rene. Seriously. Because she’s an Eternal Flame. Which might be one of my favourite ballads of all time. Has Celine ever covered Eternal Flame? Can someone please suggest it to her? It would be a MASSIVE hit.
